    Newbie here!

I agree, and the G series camera isn't a GoPro by any means, but it's not bad at all for the money. I've seen some very impressive photos and video shot with this quad. If you live in the USA, you can get the X8G on Amazon for as low as $96, and the X8HG for $120-130. I don't think I'd bother...

    Winds!

I'd also recommend UAV Forecast. It seems to work pretty well and has the advantage of showing winds aloft. You can set the altitude for the wind reading, so if you are going to be flying at 400' AGL it will display the forecast winds at that altitude. It's available for both Android and iOS.

    "Open Phone Wi-Fi"

That's correct. The camera transmitter broadcasts a signal that your phone will read as a WiFi network. You will need whatever app they specify to be able to view the video feed. You will open up the 'WiFi Networks' setting on your phone and you should nee a network that is actually the quad's...

Can you recommend a quadcopter *without* altitude hold?

I don't know anyone who has tried a 4S lipo on a Bugs 3, but I doubt the stock ESC's could take it.

    Symantec x5sw outside flight interference

I have an X5SW too...but I don't use the FPV camera with it. It's a great quad other than that camera.

    Symantec x5sw outside flight interference

Check and make sure the transmitter isn't in low power mode. If it is, the signal bars on the left side of the LED display will be flashing. If they are steady, it's in high power mode. The range is horrible in the low power setting. I'm at work and don't have notes here to remind me how to...

    CHARGER

Lots of decent balance chargers out there. I'm using a SkyRC iMax B6 mini. It's not the only good one around by any means, but a lot of people use and like the the B6AC, B6, or B6 mini. The AC comes with the AC power supply, the Mini you have to buy the power supply for it.

    battery

The 'C' rating is a rating of safe discharge rate. The stock batteries on an X8C are 2000mah. If they were rated 10C, it would mean that the battery is designed to be safely discharged at 10x its capacity, or 10 x 2200mah: in other words 22000ma, or 22 Amps maximum continuous discharge. A 20C...

Can you recommend a quadcopter *without* altitude hold?

I just started flying mine on a 3S battery...wow, it's fast with the extra voltage.

    Battery charging question

You can find 380mah hour batteries that will fit the X11 if you want longer flight times.

    Syma X5C-1 Modifications

This is a difference between the X8C/G/W transmitter and the one for the X8H* versions with altitude hold. The H version has the spring-loaded return to center on the left stick.

    Instructions

Cool the motors off completely between flights. Those quads are famous for burning out motors often due to the 2S voltage on the brushed motors.

Need some advice choosing a quad

The issue you are going to have is finding a quad with RTH in that price range. True RTH means GPS, and GPS means more than your budget. Headless mode can be used for an effective RTH IF you learn how and practice it. 'Quadcopter 101' has a good video on YouTube that explains and demonstrates...

    x8c range mod

That's exactly what I do. I use an X8 controller to fly my X5's. I picked it up on Ebay, if I remember correctly. It has more range than my eyes do!

    advice for practical drone

I don't think I'd be too anxious to try to buy one for $5...that looks like a scam. The cheapest I've seen them on sale was something like $89 shipped from China (Banggood.com or Gearbest.com, can't recall which). Edited to add: Apparently not a scam, but the price with a US-style charger is $120.

    advice for practical drone

There is a guy on the Facebook Syma X Series Quadcopter Owners Group named Robert Good who has used a Runcam Owl on an MJX Bugs 3. If you are so inclined, he may be able to provide a bit of insight.

Bugs3 - Does this cheap fpv system will work?

Notice the field of view on that camera is only 90 degrees...not ideal for FPV. A couple of people I know are using the Runcam Eagle and Runcam Owl Plus in the Bugs 3. They fit nicely into the space where the front LED is.
