Take a look at a box style guitar/instrument case, they are perfect for this stuff, easy to handle and cheaper. I am making a special case for mine from wood and foam, but a guitar case is a great way to carry.

Yes, but what type of flying are you looking to do? Photography and film or fun? Bigger quads cost more in a crash. A 500 class is pretty much the same price as a 250, and it handles a crash well, but flight time and lift are the big advantages.
