hi all, i am pretty new to the drone world and i am planning a long term goal of designing and building my own custom drone capable of autonomous flight. i have experience in mechanical engineering, and my buddy who is an EE, will be helping me along with the power issues and programming end of things. we are currently getting our feet wet with a couple of "crash test dummy" drones as we learn how to build a more elaborate drone kit using a pixhawk as our interface.
we are tinkerers by nature and wanted to ultimately build a drone that is capable of autonomous flight, and will have object detection capabilities as well. we first looked into simple proximity sensors on the market that we were familiar with in our line of work, but has anyone considered using radar for object detection? please forgive my ignorance on this subject if it is a topic that has been beaten to death, but i am pretty much a newbie when it comes to drone flight. any help with this, opinions, advice or info would be really appreciated. thanks everyone!
