    Federal Registration

As of a couple of weeks ago, yes. The mandatory registration for RC aircraft over .55 pounds was reinstated by Congress as of a couple of weeks ago. Go to the FAA website and search for "sUAS registration".

    Force1 F100

No, the MJX protocol is different from the DSM/DSM2/DSMx protocols. AFAIK, with MJX Bugs quads you are stuck with the original transmitter. The Jumper T8SG supports SOME MJX quads, but I'm told not the Bugs series, which is the only thing keeping that radio out of my shopping cart.

    Bugs 3?

The SYma X8 batteries use a red "banana" style plug, and the Bugs 3 uses an XT30.

If you are heading towards FPV, I'd suggest you start with something like a FlySky i6x radio, a compatible BNF brushed micro FPV quad, and an affordable pair of goggles. You can get in for under $200 with extra batteries if you shop, and the Tx and goggles will work with your next step up. Ren...

    Bugs 3?

I have one, and have flown the crap out of it, so if you have questions I'll be happy to try to provide info.

    Bugs 3?

No, no, and no. The Bugs 3 is a specific model of quadcopter produced by MJX RC. It is also re-branded as the Force1 F100 and F100 "Ghost".

    Force1 F100

Yeah, they made some changes (at least cosmetically) to the transmitters on the recent Force1 versions. I'm curious whether it will result in any difference to the signal quality, but haven't heard. If it's true diversity (unlikely, but possible), I'd point one antenna up and one sideways.

    Force1 F100

Yes. Force1 re-brands a variety of quads including MJX's. Their regular F100 has a slightly re-designed top shell, while the F100 "Ghost" has the stock Bugs 3 top shell in three different colors plus some kind of GoPro knock-off. Functionally both are Bugs 3's. On the plus side, Force1 has a...

    Xk x350 Battery options

The battery is a 3S (11.1 volt) 2200 mah LiPo with an XT60 connector. They don't give dimensions, but you should be able to do some searching and get an idea about the cost of suitable replacements. You should be able to do better than $35. You will have the measure the stock battery to be sure...

    Old man, new skill

Nothing wrong with that. No one should pretend there is only one way to do this hobby. If you have the time, funds, energy and inclination, have fun with it!

    New drone owner

It is Force 1's re-brand of the MJX Bugs B2W. They get excellent reviews and <$100 is a great price for that quad. Have fun with it...keep it close while you're learning. MJX makes some really good quads.

You're right, it takes a while to get skilled. Keep it close to you while learning.

    Batteries for controllers

just for giggles, make sure you don't have the Syma transmitter set to low power mode. If it is, the "signal power" icon (I believe it is near the top left) on the LCD display will be flashing. It should be steady in high power mode. The low power setting will give you terrible range.
