Hi guys!
Beginner flyer here, not even sure what lead me down the quadcopter obsession path anymore but here we are. My first flight was a few weeks ago at a buddies. It was a very tiny little thing but actually very fun.
Being a bit compulsive I end up buying a WLtoys Q696-A with the 5.8 FPV LCD, 2 axis gimbal 1080p camera. Well, proprietary battery and most sellers with the cheapies won't ship to US.
Need at least one extra battery so I find a screaming deal on the Q696 no camera that I bought for spare parts figured it would be cheaper to crash too So I flew it, crashed it a few times. no worse for wear other than a broken prop. One hell of a lot of fun!
Well those Q696 are rather large and my property all of a sudden seemed a great deal smaller somehow. We have a few acres on the Skykomish river here in WA but lot's of trees. That night I find myself browsing the eBay for things I don't need and found a Syma X5 for like 21 shipped! Who could turn that down???! I sure didn't. What a great learner! love it, can't say enough good things about it. Bought 4 extra batteries.
Bought several more X5's for Christmas gifts.
Switching control modes to right stick turn made all the difference for me, 100 times better flyer instantly.
But wait........ that's not all... I bought an off brand X8C for short money Looks like a Syma X*C (fake) but it IS NOT. Looks great, feels good, big 8 inch props ------ total piece of *&^%! I think the main problem was the magic smoke leaked out of two motors and it lost it's mojo all in about 15 seconds.
In any event, glad to be here!
