Solder flux is not necessary, but if you don't use it you will have problems, it makes stuff easy. I have done a lot of soldering between jobs I have worked and more so here at my house. Flux is not 100% needed, but you will get better joints, see on these bigger wires and connectors it takes...

I did not think it was the ESCs, I think your right from what I could find online. The ESCs would probably burn out before causing a problem.

If what Neil suggested does not work add some Links, you should have 5 amps more ESC than motor's max draw.

Really what ever you want to lift, but I'd suggest getting two smaller batteries as apposed to one big one, unless your doing a LRS. a 3000 mah is fine, you could probably handle a 5200mah battery if it is mutistar's .

You could also put weight on this one and see how much it subtracts from that weight, this would be the most accurate.

Have you tried to just put it upside down on a scale. Just adjust the scale to 0 once you have all of your equipment there and it should be a little more accurate.
