    $400 to spend, any ideals

Actually, just about everything listed comes on all the Big Dog controllers plus multi axis gyros, barometers, osd and even sonar is available. dji Naza is great. So is PixHawk, SuperX and Eagle Tree. Rumor has it that dji Naza and PixHawk are getting a complete re-do by years end. They are said...

Propeller Nut and Mount Flies Off During Tests

Honestly, I think the Blue Loctite would be sufficient. If it works on my Harley it should certainly work on a quad.:)

Propeller Nut and Mount Flies Off During Tests

Actually, the shaft on the motor BrandonC has is 4mm and I picked up some nylock 4mm nuts at Home Depot last week. Never thought about the epoxy. Brilliant!

Propeller Nut and Mount Flies Off During Tests

The RC Timer adapters won't work for your motors. You're stuck with the collett type until you upgrade. The better motors have the type of prop mounts that Paul Titcombe suggested.

Propeller Nut and Mount Flies Off During Tests

You can use Blue Threadlocker on the nut. Available at any autoparts store and most hardware stores. Do NOT use Red! If the whole collett comes off try using a medium file and LIGHTLY roughing up the motor shaft. Hopefully that will give enough friction to hold it in place. When it's time to...

    Need help on Experimental Quadrotor

Thanks! That's interesting. Holtneil and I had a discussion along those lines a couple of days ago. The math completely loses me though. After reading the paragraph about how the larger cross section would affect horizontal flight and wind stability I doubt this will ever see mass production in...

    Need help on Experimental Quadrotor

Ha! I thought you sent that to me by accident. I forwarded it to the guy who was having controller problems. I see your "out" as well. I didn't know if your project was secret or not.:) I like stuff that's different so I haven't given up yet. I have one idea that would be more like a...

No. The lower kv motors are usually more efficient. Often the less expensive motor manufacturers have taken shortcuts in design and materials. Fewer poles, low quality wire, less care taken in the windings, lower quality magnets and the list goes on. Sometimes you will find a manufacturer use a...

The link above will help you understand Lipo batteries. The 23.2 amp draw of the motor is telling you how fast it will draw down your battery at full throttle. That 23.2v max draw is horrible for a motor that size by the way. You should probably look at other manufacturers or you'll only be able...

    Need help on Experimental Quadrotor

Just one more question among many. I think I could solve that by making the wheelbase larger than the big prop. The more I research this the less it seems to be very practical. The small amount of info I have gathered is not very encouraging. I'm beginning to believe that the answer to the...

Google "quadcopter power winch". Looks like you're not the only one that likes the winch idea. There are a butt load listed!

Jackson is right, XT60 connectors are everywhere! Go with those. GJH105775 is correct that you could use a larger motor with lower kv and even a larger prop based on the type of flying you said you want to do. Perhaps a 12x3.8 if your arms permit it. Also. The motors shown have very short leads...
