1200mAh Batteries for Syma X5SW

Got a question.

My Syma came with 500mAh Battery. I bought some 1200mAh batterys for the purpose of extending the flight time of my Syma Drone. After buying these batteries and using them a few times, I noticed that the Preformance as went down Tremendously.

I noticed at times I'd have to be full power and it still wouldn't lift off the ground. I figured since the battery was 3.7v just like the 500mAh Batter was 3.7v as well that I'd have no Trouble, the mAh is just an extended capacity of charge.

Can the Syma handle 1200mAh at 3.7v? If so would this mean that my Motors are bad? or couldn't handle the 1200? Or maybe, the motors were basically shot from the get go from an OEM Defect?

Any help would be appreciated. I also got on ebay and bought some Upgraded motors, and I asked the Seller if those motors could handle 1200mAh and he said they couldn't so he held my order til I respond.

Just curious if I spent the money for nothing on the 1200mAh batteries and can't use then in fear they will burn up some new motors. I didn't think that the mAh would effect the motors since the original batteries were 500mAh at 3.7v, I thought the Voltage was more important then the mAh?

Been there done that. With such an increase in weight and runtime, it's a big strain on the motors. Take it for what it is and stick with the 500 mah

So it's not the battery mAh or voltage, it's the weight of the battery that puts the extra strain on the motors then, If it wasn't for that, then it would work fine?

I did put my 500mAh back in and it worked the same, the performance declined as well after a few minutes of flight.

They are brushed motors. They get hot. I did the same thing with 1100mah batteries. It was fine in February when it was cold but as it warmed up outside I started burning up motors.

Gotcha, I was thinking they were brushless motors. So that's probably what it is then, It's getting extra hot and burning them up.

So I could fly for a few minutes, let it cool down and do again correct without over heating and burning up the motors?

I ordered more motors. I did noticed the batteries get extra hot, but of course it's warmer outside also so that don't help and not to mention, I should've gotten a White one but got a Black one instead so I'm collecting heat from the Sun. I might have to Air Brush it a lighter color to reflect the heat.

You can try the cool down. Might have to just experiment and time your flight or something.
You could get lots of extra 500mah batteries, get an extra quad and switch off to get lots of flights in a session.

You should always let your quad sit for a few minutes to cool off before flights. Don't worry about the batteries getting warm, mine all do. Just make sure they don't get hot enough that they start puffing.

Well, if I was thinking more, I should've gotten a white Model instead of a Black one lol, I wanted to have a Different color then my Son's, that way we could tell them apart without doing anything to change it.

But I'll end up doing that. I'll do like a 2 minute flight or something, then let it cool down a bit. then get it going again and let it cool down, it don't take long for the batteries to cool down anyway.

I like using the Live FPV on it to record the Videos on my Phone. I noticed that I get almost 13 minutes of Flight time with the 1200mAh batteries. Today might be a good time to fly caue it's not as hot today. I also been playing around with it in the house some so I can get the menuvering down better plus it's out of the sun.

Just got in my 800mAh from Banggood for my X5SSW-1 and they are a world of difference. Mine came with a 780mAh batt and it was 5-6 minutes flight time at best. Ordered the 4 800's + charger for $12.99 shipped. They came in today. They are actually smaller in size than the 780 but pack more punch. All 4 charged up at about an hour. Throttle response was amazing and flight time increased to about 8-9 minutes. Might be a one off but I am very happy with the 800's.

So do you think it'd be ok to get at least 700mAh or round about and it would be ok? I think these 1200mAh burnt my Motors up, well one of them anyway, had to buy Replacements for my x5SW. It don't help that I bought a Black one not thinking black retains heat from the sun LOL.

The 1200 mAh lipo batteries are better suited for throttle controllers that use the 3.7v batteries. Since weight is not a factor with the controller, and the higher mAh capacity will keep the controller functioning longer. Lessening the chance of losing control while the drone is in flight.

Yeah. I got a black one too. Being a newbie, I don't have much experience to be able to give advice. All I can say is that after about 2 hours of flight time my 800's are doing great and so far no problems for the Syma.

What Quad do you have? I'm a newbie also, i got a X5SW. it came with 500mAh Batteries.

I bought 1200mAh batteries and it appears that it makes the Motors EXTRA Hot and Burnt them out. Well burnt the Brushes out and it don't rotate as fast anymore so I had to Replace the Motors already, less then a week old when they burn tup lol.

So I went back to my 500mAh Batteries and Selling my 1200mAh batteries, I can't afford right not to keep buying motors for it.

I have a X5SW-1 delivered this past Thursday with a 780mAh batt. I ordered 4 800mAh batts plus charger from Banggood at $12.99 at the same time. They arrived yesterday and been using them since. Just walked in the door after 30+ minutes flying with the 4. Happy so far.

That is awesome. I might have to Research the X5SW-1. I got this one on ebay for under $50, it's all I could afford right now being low income. I'd like to achieve more flight time, but NOT at the expense of buying more motors cause of the extra heat.

I think next time, I'll save up and get me a Drone with bigger motors and that are brushless motors so I won't have so much of an issue of the brushes burning up from heat. I've seen some NICE Drones out there. I may even go as far as trying to do a DIY Drone. We'll see how that goes lol

Learning from experience, buy spare motors. At 4 for US$7.50, cheap enough. My prob is not burnt motors, but spun motor gears. In a crash or collision with throttle, the gear stops but motor still spins burning the gear to the point it becomes loose on motor shaft. No flight then. Always buy motors with gears unless you have spare gears. And always throttle OFF when crash or collision is certain!
