Motor, ESC, PDB and battery confusion

What are you building this for? Your build is not very conventional, and the 5S build is going to make the motors, ESCs, and batteries more expensive. Here are some videos that will hopefully clear the confusion regarding electrical .

First time build off to bad start.

The darkest on the end is ground, probably brown Yellow is signal, but it should be the opisite end to the darkest, and the middle should be 5v+ assuming it is using typical servo wire standards.

Affordable 3D printing and design help by an individual

Hey, I have a Craftbot Plus. It has a single extruder, and a 200X250X200mm build volume. Currently I have Blue Hatchbox ABS, and some Red Hatchbox PLA + a spool of White CraftBot PLA. I would be willing to buy some other types of filament. I also currently have some M3 screws and...

FIXED Naze32 by Putting it in the oven!

Usually the plastic used has pretty high heat tolerances as it gets hot during soldering. It probably was soft, but not damaged. Also gotta make sure you don't cool it too fast, but I see nothing wrong with this trick. If it works and is safe why not do it? If the FCB is trash...

FIXED Naze32 by Putting it in the oven!

Well a hairdryer might not be warm enough, and if it is the you will likely have the problem just solved until some heating or cooling during normal operation causes the problem to come back so re-flowing might actually be better than the oven but it is not available to many people. The...

FIXED Naze32 by Putting it in the oven!

We used to temporarily fix seized hard drives by putting them in the freezer. The cold caused some metal to shrink long enough to unseize and back it up. :P I'd be careful about ovens, though it can do good. For soldering joints I use hot air SMD gun, and there are soldering...

Trying to spec out a build. Under $200?

Gotta leave now, but if I don't post something before tomorrow remind me in a PM. This is a pretty common question, just have to taylor some other builds to your needs and apply any improvements that have come with time.

My first Quadcopter - Short circuit?

Must be a smaller short, but if there is smoke then you're right. Does your frame use any carbon fiber? Most people forget that it is somewhat conducive. Or perhaps a wire is clamped between two things like the arm and bottom plate. These are just guesses, you should be able to...

    Hot Motors!

Good point also how hot is hot? Your build in theory should be able to handle this. Bad PIDs could be overworking the motors too.

    littlebee 20a problem

All fur are possibly from the same line. If four in a row were bad they likely have had several DOAs. Do you have a good ESC to check that the throttle input is getting to the ESC in the ESC calibration to make sure the FCB is not messing up on the throttle pass through to calibrate 0...

    Hot Motors!

Never tried for APM, but might be able to recognize some PID problems with it as they are not likely too different from Clanflight logs .

My first Quadcopter - Short circuit?

The BEC just steps battery voltage down to a voltage the flight controller and other subsystems can use (usually 5v). You could buy a BEC seperate to avoid getting any more ESCs. Confused on what you mean by short and the PDB burning out though. Is there heat, smoke, or a fire?

    littlebee 20a problem

Try plugging an ESC directly into the receiver, make sure the props are off. You should be able to get it to startup after some beeps with the throttle channel. If that doesn't work try calibrating the throttle range. If it still doesn't work it may have a bad flash of the firmware...

    Hot Motors!

When you come to your final build you should not be that close to your max thrust. For racers normally you want a minimum of a 1:3 thrust ratio. I like to keep my racers around a 1:5 thrust ratio (Weight:Thrust). These numbers are for racers which need to have a lot of acceleration...

What did i burn out ?

What is the reason to turn the Tx off before the battery? We were always taught to keep the Tx on until the receiver was turned off as this prevents the possibility of acquiring another signal that would have been considered a part of the noise floor until the nearby transmitter got turned...

What did i burn out ?

What lead to this or what looks burnt? Sounds like you may have clipped a wire mid flight. Pictures?

Do I have a bad ESC?

Can you take the props off of the motors, then connect the bottom left motor to the Rx on channel 3(or whichever your throttle is). Then you idle the motor just a little over where it spins (full throttle could damage the motor without a prop). Then kinds wiggle the wires with your finger...

    New Drone Build! Any Help?

I'd suggest getting a board cam as well and feeding it to a screen or cheap set of goggles. The runcam is going to have a little latency, and I'm uncertain on how you will get the signal from the receiver to the laptop without some sort of high latency USB to composite adapter. The GoPro...

My first Quadcopter - Short circuit?

Do you have a continuity tester? I'd suggest checking to see if the solder on one of the ESc's wires is touching something it shouldn't. A lot of those PDBs built into the frame are close enough to short if you use too much solder in a joint. I'd suggest checking that and perhaps...
