Newbie-> from U818 to Bugs 3...and the learning to fly process for me

Definitely not normal. I would pull the motor (screws on the bottom) and check to see if the little retainer clip on the bottom of the motor shaft is missing. At least, that's what I would expect to find. I haven't had to replace a motor on the Bugs 3 yet.

Not sure what you mean by "motor sticking". Can you see if you can capture it in photo or video? Your learning curve looks normal, by the way. You will hit "fatigue" point where all your movements get bigger and all your mistakes are amplified. Put it down for a while at that point. Expect two...

Newbie-> from U818 to Bugs 3...and the learning to fly process for me

Yep, that's exactly what learning looks like. Early flights in wind increase the degree of difficulty exponentially. That actually wasn't bad at all. The same over-corrections you are making with the throttle are the ones you are learning to avoid with hovering and "flying small". Keep at it...

Meh...to each his own. The most talented guys I've ever seen fly all had mastered great basics. I see a lot of sloppy flyers in videos. At the end of the day, whatever ends up making it fun.

Indoors: NO with this quad. Outside in more space, but KEEP IT CLOSE. Chop the throttle and let it fall if things go badly, the Bugs 3 will take a fair bit of punishment without breaking unless you are very unlucky. Fast rise: Yes. The good news is if you can keep from breaking this quad (it's...

Hopefully a good kind of interesting! I think that quad may be the best overall value going. You can do about anything with it with all the room inside and the design of the board. Keep us posted on how the learning curve is going.

Mjx Bug 2 WiFi. Red. Mint condition

I'm curious what you didn't like about this quad....

FPV camera for the Bugs 3 = C5820 (MJX's model number). The C5830 will also work, but you would need to cut out the front of the Bugs 3 body.

Personally, I wouldn't shell out the money for a GoPro, since there are so many good clones out there for so much cheaper. You will have to do a lot of research to choose one, but you seem to be willing to do that. Look at reviews, side-by-side comparison videos on YouTube, etc. FWIW, I have an...

Vipon still has the $65 deal on the Bugs 3: https://www.vipon.com/product/4160918?from=index_0 They are only showing 3 left, though.

That SUCKS. No possibility the batteries can still be used with it?

That was kinda my point, Moz. I wasn't quibbling about the price. ;)

You're correct about the number of cells, and about the balancing. I"d suggest you consider buying a decent balance charger when possible. The Bugs 3 board and ESC's will handle 3S (3 x 3.7V cells wired in serial = 11.7V) batteries fine, and it's definitely fast with the extra voltage. However...

My first question would be whether the charger is putting a full charge into those batteries.

If you're going that direction, you can buy a refurbished DJI Phantom 4 (standard) from DJI for $799. Don't get me wrong, I want to see some real competitors for DJI, but $1499 gets you a new Phantom 4 Pro. The P4's have a lot of clear advantages of the Xiro.

No way you will get 20 minutes, but you should be getting a lot more than 7. Is this with multiple batteries, or do you only have 1?

The battery rating is mAh, or milli-amp hours. That means that if you have an 1800 mah battery (like the one on your Bugs 3), the battery can theoretically provide 1800 mA current for one hour. That's not strictly true, because you can't draw 100% of the theoretical capacity from the battery...

I'm not sure I'd recommend a $379 4S 130mm Blade as a "first time drone". It could just be me, though.

I would look at Hubsan and MJX to start with. Others may have some additional suggestions. For your step up, look at brushless motor quads. Up to you if you want to consider GPS or FPV, but if you are planning on a Mavic or a P4 anyway, I would save the money and look for a mostly manual...

I wouldn't cut the frame on this one or try to fly it in a lot of wind. You made some progress learning the basics indoors, build on that. If you're thinking about a Mavic or a P4P you have the budget to move to an intermediate quad to transition. Just my suggestion....
