Taking Off on Take Off - Not Hovering

LOL...just pull both sticks down and left all the way, then watch for the lights on the quad. They will change within several seconds to confirm the gyro is re-calibrated. Usually the lights will go flashing at first, then solid when the calibration is complete, and it sounds like that's true...

    Mode

I was out of RC for a lot of years, but I used to fly gliders and heli's. When I first tried a Syma quad to see what all the multirotor fuss was about, I of course set the TX to 'Mode 2'. That didn't last long - I couldn't get it back on the ground fast enough. Did some reading, and figured out...

Taking Off on Take Off - Not Hovering

I'd bet that re-calibrating your gyros would cure it. Always re-calibrate after a hard landing or crash, just in case.

If it performs like the Bugs 3 and all those features work pretty much as advertised, that quad would be a serious steal at $139.99.

Taking Off on Take Off - Not Hovering

First, until you are a bit higher off the ground, the quad is still getting turbulent air blown back up off the ground. It's trying to hover in unstable air. Bring it up 3-4' off the ground. If you are in still air and trimmed just right, you might get a 'hands-off' hover for a few seconds, but...

Ok, here is an intriguing option. CAVEAT: I don't know this quad, and haven't seen any reviews or feedback. I think it was probably just released by MJX. It appears to be built on the same platform as the Bugs 3, but adds a lot of features. 139.99 at Gearbest using coupon code MJXB2C. I tested...

Again I wish I could multi-quote! pdmike: I think you are referring to the rate settings. If so, this is a measure of how fast the (for sure) pitch and roll response and (possibly) the yaw response will be. The result is that a higher setting will result in the quad being faster and more...

    Mode

Transmitter modes are the setups for which stick controls what movement on the aircraft. Mode 2 is by far the most commonly used in the USA. In mode 2, the throttle and yaw (rudder) are on the left stick, the pitch and roll are on the right stick (elevator/ailerons). Mode 1 transmitters put...

    Fpv antenna question.

The VR007 goggles only have one antenna. I believe the stock one is a dipole. I'd do a YouTube search on 'VR007 antenna upgrade' and see if someone has experimented and reported results. I would bet someone has, since the VR007's are popular 'starter' FPV goggles. Both my sons started FPV flying...

It depends on your definition of 'better'. In terms of durability, versatility, speed, and handling I don't know of any offhand. In terms of features like auto take off/land, barometer altitude hold, headless mode, there are a ton of other options. However, most of the quads in this price range...

It will. Once you learn to fly well, the Bugs 3 won't care about much of any wind you are gutsy enough to fly in, but see my last post You have to learn to fly with confidence first, and you can fake it for a while, but not forever or the wind will win in the end. The Bugs 3 is a steal at $115...

You're absolutely right. It IS better. The X5's have more wind resistance than you think, but they're so light you have to get the nose down and give them a lot of throttle or they will get blown away. Many of us have lost a quad in wind while we were learning. See: me. :)

The Bugs 3 is short on some of the 'bells and whistles' like auto take-off/landing, headless mode and RTH. It has a couple of very uncommon bells and whistles like 'signal loss' (hey, you are too far or something is interfering with me hearing you, better turn toward home and re-establish a...

Tomtop depends on who you ask. This is true of most Chinese suppliers. I have used Bangood.com with much success (assuming you are patient). I haven't bought from Tomtop, and they worry me a bit based on reviews. Use PayPal to pay for any overseas purchases and you are much safer, because they...

    Difficulty hovering outdoors

...and just in case that wasn't long-winded enough: as you master basics with the nose pointed 30-90 degrees from you, keep going and practice flying toward you. Eventually you will respond based on the nose orientation of the quad automatically without thinking about it at all. This is where...

    Difficulty hovering outdoors

Wish this forum supported multi-quote. I agree with pretty much everything already said. The three most important things to build flying skill are practice, watch and listen to everyone's videos, etc., and practice. If you must ignore one, ignore the second one. :) Learning to fly quads is 15%...

Jackson, you've become a Bugs 3 convert! And you can use 3S LiPo's - I have been flying mine with them. For camera work the 2S are fine. For sport flying, the 3S are really nice and provide a lot more speed and power. The consensus is that the stock props don't perform well with the added power...

The motors are different for both the HG and the G. FWIW, you can put the G series motors in any X8.
