Smya X8G Highly Updated and Improved User Manual

I just acquired my first drone (a Smya X8G) but was initially stumped by the terrible User Manual that had incoherent English, incorrect information, and major pieces of missing information (like it was critical that the props be placed on the right motor shafts!)

I have spent the better part of a week rewriting and correcting the Smya manual and felt it would help others if I shared what I finally put together.

Jackson - I'm not clear what you mean, as on Page 7 I gave a detailed explanation of the differences between Modes 1 and 2 (Controller Modes & Instructions). I agree with your desire and it was one of the first things I worked on. What more would you suggest be added?

NOTE: Syma has the Mode numbering ass backwards. If you are used to flying in MODE 2 make sure to choose Syma's wrongly labelled MODE 1.

More than a few have posted problems regarding this.

Ah. I understand now what you mean. Given that this is my first RC aircraft ever, I was not aware of this distinction, but searching the web and studying the issue it appears that Syma made a decision to default to a Mode 1 label for the most commonly used flying mode thinking that beginners would want to start out in a low Mode number for simplicity (not knowing what it really meant). Given that these X8 class drones are largely beginner used it probably isn't too bad a decision as experienced users are probably aware of the inverted naming policy and if not they will very quickly discover the error the 1st flight they attempt. I will add your concern to my guide and republish it. :)

I think they are just idiots. You are giving them way too much credit, for whatever the reason it's stupid and confusing.

I'm surprised that it might be a bad choice as it is my first drone (although I've tried totally unsuccessfully to fly friends drones over the last few years) and I found the X8G to be extremely simple to fly and control and has way more stability than anything I have ever tried. IMHO it seems to be a great choice.

Haha. I can (and will) add such a disclaimer on those image panels in addition to the Page 7 explanation.

I keep finding more and more original document mistakes and confused English so am continuing to work on getting the Manual as clear as possible.

Other than the camera area differences, this manual will also work for the X8C drones and probably any other Syma drones using this Remote Control.

One question, when you talk about the the props you say A1, A2. Mine just say A or B, no numbers. (?????)

The props that came from Syma for the X8G are individually labeled A1, A2, B1, B2

I can see no difference between the "1" and "2" props but assumed there may be a difference since the manual calls them out specifically. But that said, on the X8G itself on the bottom side of the motor mounts only "A' and "B" are stamped in the plastic.

It would be interesting if anyone has any more insight into this, eh?

Hmm, just more stupidity. I'm sure somewhere down the line someone will break an A1 and will assume the A2 he has won't work.

I have just posted a major update to the Manual. For document tracking, it is labeled as "V3" in the lower right corner of the cover page.

Jackson - I incorporated the various suggestions you made and added a lot of information about the Modes and batteries.

I hope this is a help to others trying to decipher the Syma funny English.

This is great! I got my drone 2 days ago and it has been 3 battery charges of crash, crash, and crash again.... I just cannot get the thing to hover. At all. It's a trimming issue and the booklet that comes with the drone is really hard to fathom out. So thank you for taking the time to do this. I'll recalibrate it, set the trim and see how I go.

Thanks Jackson. Coming from you that means a lot to me. Been a ton of work. I practically rewrote everything. Once I started it was hard to stop, as every time I thought I was done, I discovered some other silly, incorrect, or incomplete statements in the vendor guide.

If anyone spots any remaining confusing parts, please post your comments here. ;)

Let us know how you do. Make sure you have the propellers on the correct locations correctly too!!
