Problems plaguing my first build

Not having an official PDB has nothing to do with his problems. For one he's not really talking about thrust, he's talking about erratic RPM and stick response. He needs to properly and carefully redo his LibrePilot setup, paying close attention ESC calibration. Actually paying close attention to everything damn thing.

I can see that cowboy, I gave my 2pence worth on a probable fix. It was just something else I noticed. 2 batteries,
1500mah to power the fcb.
Like building a power station to power a radio.

I think he just needs to get used to the throttle. I was like that. It's finding the balance. I'm still flying on stock pids.
The only thing I really change are my rates, super rates, throttle curve expo.
I'm still getting used to throttle.
Have you tried setting the throttle range on the sticks. Something like stick @ max throttle on Tx switch on,then move it to min throttle. It beeps, it's set.
Get yourself a new fcb. 4years old.

Hence him using a separate battery because of no bec to power it.
But must obviously be using a step down to power the fcb. That how it looks to me.
Maybe he not bothered about weight but.
Would make sense to use a single bigger battery for easier better CG placement.

Both batteries are pretty well centered, with the main battery temporarily mounted to the bottom of the frame (since it has fairly tall legs)

The fcb is powered by a small 7.4v battery (I think?) and weighs almost nothing. That is also centered in the middle of the frame above the larger main battery mount.

I've gone through the whole thing meticulously, looking over every step to make sure it was all done correctly.

Well then that just leaves a hardware problem then.

i'd say it took me at least two hours with the eachine e011 to get past the instawreck phase, and a big one would get away alarmingly fast.

I currently have a 2500mah in one of my quads, that replaced the original 1800mah lipo. I'm experimenting with an externally-mounted second 2500mah lipo hund directly beneath the internal battery, and wired in parallel for a total of 5000mah capacity. If centered directly below the original, the CG should not change other than being lower, but maintain the side-to-side, and front-to-back position.

Can you guys recommend a good fcb under 40$? Given how annoying LibrePilot was, I am open to getting a different one, or at least considering an upgrade there

And btw, I only have 2 batteries, a small one for powering the fcb, and the larger 5000mah one mounted in the center Below the cg

The dodgy naze32 would probably be better than what you have. But grab a F3 or F4 board. Seriously pro F3 is a good board. $20

I'll keep that one in mind for sure, it might be time for an upgrade anyways.

Does anyone know a way for me to lower the Rpm's of my motors with my current setup? Though I don't want to limit the power too much, it might make a good temporary solution.

Also, for those wondering, the Tx is some 20$ 5-channel turnigy remote (no accessory switches or dials or display, very bare bones)

Sorry not that I know of. The only solution I can think of is change motors or prop size. Probably prop size. Drop down to a 6-7" prop. Like I said from my experience it's about balance. I sometimes struggle with throttle. Lots of different factors. I didn't catch what you said about how many minutes you been flying for.
If it's your first drone,just try get used to it. Just come across something about timing. But I don't think that's any good to you.

That is throttle. Did you try changing the throttle curve. Normally stock settings is a slightly concave line. Mess with this.

I did a just this pretty drastically but it didn't seem to change anything, I'm not sure if it didn't save correctly or if it wasn't a noticeable enough change

you haven't got "air mode" active with your default config have you? that would make it a bit whirry, or did mine.

It should, low curve =not much throttle at the beginning.
Mid curve, straight line = a more even steady rise.
High curve = all throttle at beginning & slow at the end. It should be very noticeable.
If you have tried all I said, then just play with it till a new fcb comes. See if you can get used to it.
