Arducopter flips on takeoff

I have no experience with APM or Ardupilot whatsoever, but it sure looks like your flight controller is just not doing it's job. Have you tried flashing the latest firmware and starting from scratch including all calibrations?
Reno....I have flashed this board more times than I care to count....I'm at my wits end and reached out to the supplier I bought it from in hopes they have some answers or send me a new one. I have flashed it, then flashed it with another firmware (say, ardurover) just to make sure the frimware takes and then flashed it back to ardocopter. I've tried the newest firmware, older firmware, calibrating it over and over again. Just today alone, I flashed it 3 different times and went through the entire calibration setup, including taking my whole quad apart into pieces and putting it all back together making sure I didn't have that one wrong connection that was throwing everything else off.....NADA! That video was the result and I can't think of anything else other than, the board is junk! Thank you for the advice though, I appreciate all the help I can get!

I had a similar issue when I replaced an APM with one that I thought I fried. The spare was from a crash of another ship that I salvaged. I reloaded the firmware, completed all the calibrations, but when I took my hexcopter out for a test flight it immediately nosed over. Two other attempts failed miserably and I decided that the APM was damaged.

I ordered a new one from Amazon and it works fine. I don't know if yours is new or not, but if you've tried everything else, you might have to replace it. One last thing - I just skimmed the posts and I may have missed this suggestion, so at the risk of repeating I'll ask:

Have you checked the Center Of Gravity (CG)? You should be able to hold it up with two fingers on either side at the middle of the chassis and it should balance. You'll have to do this as well fore and aft.

Hey Glass, the board is new, I've been trying to get it to work for 3 weeks now. Come to find out, the techs from the supplier say it's a board defect so they're sending me out a new board today. As for Center of gravity, yes, someone had mentioned it to me and I've also done that. Thanks again for the advice!

Hope you get it flying soon! in the meantime, here's a video I shot using my Tarot hexcopter with its new APM:
Hey that was awesome! Was that using Autonomous flight? I've been thinking about building a hexcopter for better stability in video, would you mind emailing me the break down of equipment you used in your build? Danielvictoria84@yahoo.com, if you don't mind. Also, what camera are you using? Great quality, I'm not going to lie, I am jealous right now! I'll let you all know how I make out once I get my new board in.

I will send you the details. Yes, it was flying a waypoint mission I uploaded from my computer so I could focus on the video which was being transmitted. I used a GoPro Hero 4 mounted to a Feiyu-Tech Mini 3D gimbal.

That's awesome! I got your email, I appreciate it. I'm into underwater photography and video when I go scuba diving and I'd like to try out aerial photography as well. Thanks for the email, gives me an idea of what I'll need to start my next build!

Gentlemen,

Received my new APM fc today, installed it and works like a charm! I've included a short video, it is indoors so there wasn't much room to work with. I haven't been able to auto-trim or auto-tune yet, but it's flying! Thanks again for all the advice and recommendations! Happy Holidays to all!

Good to see you got it working, for not being tuned yet, it looks quite stable. Seasons Greetings to you and your family

Thanks guys! Here's a short video on today's flight. It went great until I flipped it into RTL and realized I had no control and I sorta panicked, lol. So now I know to check my throttle before flipping it back into stabilize mode! But the quad survived with minimal damage! Thanks for all the advice and recommendations!

Thanks Reno! Hope you and your family have a great Holiday as well! It definitely flies so much nicer after auto trim and auto tune. Look forward to flying more but it's too damn cold out!

In RTL mode, you can still move it around, at least during landing - I always make minor adjustments during landing, especially in tight spaces, like my back patio. No need to panic - simply switch to stabilize or one of the other manual modes and you've goto control again. Sometimes, when I let my copter get too far away from me so I have trouble determining its orientation, I'll switch to RTL and let it fly back - when it's close enough, I'll switch back to Stabilize - that's why I like the APM so much - it's great foro novice pilots!
