New...to be delivered...or not? Syma X8W

Mike, I don't think its so much "off topic" - more extending the ways in which - my thread starter - one can deal with a bum purchase of an RTF quad from China.
Unless the mods jump on me... I prefer to consider threads as a discussion group! After all - those interested and contributing to the thread are kept informed of how things are panning out. The web builder in me also says why open another thread and clutter up the order of listings...

Just my thoughts...

I kinda agree with Mike that this shifted from a discussion of the X8w and morphed into building a custom frame for an entirely different quad. I also agree that the threads are a discussion group but I understand Mike suggesting another post so this one can remain a X8w focused post. I'm pretty sure no mod's were about to jump on anybody. They are pretty laid back and rarely intervene. This will just be easier for folks to follow. Look at it as more of an edit:)

Well, if we are being literal - my Syma 8 died and was buried and passed into history weeks ago.... so did the "theme" of the thread about two pages back! - and it was I - who suggested a frame was a solution to a busted body and no spares being found.... and in my view - discussing an option with regards getting Glo back in the air ASAP - and a valid part of the discussion......... So is discussing what is and is not off or on topic.... off topic with the thread starter !

I guess if you and staff are fine with it..i just dont see myself or many looking in the syma X8 threads for a custom frame off build of an entirely different model.

Glo first dropped in on the theme of rubbish from China. I prefer the more relaxed mood and if a guy asks for help, advice or just a few words of "comfort " after getting junk delivered or whatever.. I am not going to announce the topic is about XXX not YYY. If the mods don't like it... they will say so and either move the thread or PM to sort it out.
As I said - I prefer to consider a thread a discussion group. I doubt anybody these days - would be looking for Syma X8 related threads - and this one I started about a bum useless Syma sent to me from China - same as Glo was with his 3D. Threads and subject matter need not run on railway lines...and if this forum ever gets that way.... you wont need to worry about me wandering off topic - because I will have wandered off elsewhere!

Not arguing or getting uptight about your comment, you as a person or anything else..... just saying how I see things.

Im not even sure an x8c would handle the wind im getting haha....having fun indoors though with the smaller quads...Figuring out ways to challenge myself with landing spots and flying though obstacles.

If you want a nice little indoor quad those Bayang X9's are pretty nice...has to be one of the lesser cost models to repair..its like $6.00 for a complete set of motors.

Yeah, yesterday and the day before were way too windy to fly at all here. In fact, we had a couple of tornadoes in that wave. I'm in Northern Alabama so what hits me here is likely headed to WV where you are so have fun over the next couple of days. Today is looking a lot better here.

Interesting, so proper forum etiquette is dictated by 'it only matters if the mods don't like it'?

Not sure how you came up with that. If you read the last few posts, it was a healthy back and forth and humor was being used to keep things lighthearted. I thought my ! would express that instead of :).

Not a matter of what is "improper forum ettquette" its more common sense. Just because some forum's have mods who get anal over certain aspects of thread and reply content - does not mean every mod on every forum needs to be issued with a black uniform, jackboots and a big stick.
HD says "...it was a healthy back and forth and humor was being used to keep things lighthearted." If that humour is not to your way of thinking as "proper forum etiquette" - you have an option to report it to the mods. This forum, has a balance of "proper forum etiquette" and leeway which allows friendly interchange.
IMHO - too many many forums - or perhaps that should be - forum users/members, make more sarcastic comments and put downs as apposed to helpful advice, information or other positive input, alongside are the self appointed policemen who seem only able to read a rule book, add their own interpretation and consider everything runs unbending on railway lines.
With regard your comment - "Interesting, so proper forum etiquette is dictated by 'it only matters if the mods don't like it'?" I suppose Yes - is the answer. The mods have the last word and decide if a line has been crossed.

You are right. I apologize and here is the new thread.. http://quadcopterforum.com/threads/picking-a-new-frame-for-fy-3d-x8-components.6536/

You think I should delete my irrelevant posts?
You are fine, no need to delete your post. if ever you go off topic and wish to have your post moved so that things are more organized for you and others reading then you can message me or Neil with a "move request". A move request is basically where you give a link of the post you want to move, and a link to the thread you want them moved.

Interesting, so proper forum etiquette is dictated by 'it only matters if the mods don't like it'?
Proper forum etiquette is defined by your own morals, and our objective is to do as we believe Mike would want done (he owns and pays for the site). We just try to keep the forum clean of spam, keep things civil, and useful. If a thread is suddenly taken off topic then the post may get moved with no one asking.
Forum rules, note that they are very short and not very restricting.

Its getting to be an old thread.... but there has been some interesting twists!
When I first paid EverBuying - my PP went to "Hassan" PP account. later when I chased for a refund to PP for an order that never arrived ( I doubt it was sent out in fact - but that's a biased opinion!) The refund came from "Hassan".
A few weeks ago I purchased a lipo from a Sydney based seller - it arrived fast but the package was damaged and there was a bit of dent in a corner - but It seemed OK. It was not even used until all my parts started to arrive,
rather than use a 4500maH for " bench testing" I decided to get a smaller battery... went back to the store on eBay and ordered a 1300maH 3s. The PP receipt arrived.... paid to "Hassan" OMG is he following me around the internet!
I contact PP and ebay to seek a cancellation and gave a very shortened version of the Syma saga and insisted I did not want to deal with the is guy - who is most definitely NOT in Sydney. As it was... the battery was late - and not from Sydney. I got back to ebay who said they monitor situation like like as misrepresentation of the item location - although aware that so called Aussie based stores may be operated from China with a "warehouse" in Sydney to send out purchases.
The so called store owner got back to me insisting there was no Hassan in his business and never heard of him. Meanwhile the battery stopped charging the 3rd cell.
**Now when I reported in another thread that power out was 10.?v it was mentioned it should only be 8.something ( i forget) I mentioned this elsewhere and the reason for my 10 volts from 2 cells was... the third cell was holding some charge before it stopped charging and held some power and showed on the meter as the extra few volts.**

Anyway - I got back to the guy who was not and did not know Hassan... with the issue and he was only to pleased to offer a replacement. I said I did not want to put money into Hassans bank and I was about to order more batteries after the 2 quads I am involved with get finished ( its getting to be a trash bin job so far!) So.. I will order IF he can assure me I don't pay to Hassan. He offered a refund !- it eventually arrived paid back by... Hassan - who he had never heard of!

When I ordered the Syma - a couple of week later I decided to follow advice and get "Lots of props - coz you will crash a lot - and a couple of spare batteries". The order was just over $60- obviously in view of the problems that followed - they never got used. I put them up for sale online. After the usual rush of idiots wanting something for nothing with silly offers - I had one guy who said he had a Syma X8C. So we started a deal and he arrived to check.
Telling the saga he asked me to sell him everything and I got au$210 ( he later told methat with a fully working TX and some work on the electronics... it was OK! and promptly sold it to his boss and bought a Phantom 2 off eBay!) now all the Syma stuff had cost me the equal to au$284 - so I was au$74 out of packet at this stage. Back on EverBuying I had a $140 refund - adding a few $$ to my full refund I got the Devo 10.
Which had a broken seal when it arrived and a USB problem - the broken seal conditioned me that it was another defective item and I got back to EB support and the whole system of delays and messing about started - but they came back with a $45 refund offer. I figured I could sell the Devo for spares for maybe $50... so I took the refund.. added a few more$$ and purchased a set of 4 boxed Mars 2213 - 980 motors - which are currently sitting on a 500 Alien frame waiting for a distribution board. So depending on how the Devo turns out - I reckon I am either on break even or up a few dollars!

I have since placed orders with BangGood and so far I cannot fault them.

Now if Only - I could understand half this stuff and get it working like I see "newbies" on youTube.... life would be good!

And that just about closes this thread.

Ya know..... sometimes it's better to just cut your losses and move on. I have had similar experiences with Chinese crap from ebay and got no help in resolving problems going thru ebay. The last time, I received motors that were boxed wrong. Correct part # on the box, wrong motor in the box. My response from the chinese co. and from ebay was virtually word for word what quadcopter102 got. I took the motors, which turned out to be junk anyway, and broke them with a hammer and emailed the picture to ebay. Now I only buy from ebay if no one else has it. I sold all the rest of the chinese junk, that I intially bought when I got into this hobby, for the cost of shipping only.
Take your x8 and use the parts to build something fun. There are an astonishing # of sites devoted to modifying Syma products. Buying quality is more than just the parts. A big part of it is the supplier and the service they provide. We in the US "colonies" have a large variety of quality suppliers to choose from that provide real, not copies, of parts from all over the world. I know other countries are somewhat limited but there are good suppliers the world over. Just do your research and get back to having fun!:)

Hdtallrider

You gave up in other words. Someone conned you and thought, oh let them steal from me?
I would keep on until I lost or won, no matter how long.

Chinese companies know how soft the western world person is so exploits it to the end.

Never ever give up!!

I started this thread some time back now.....as you will know now after reading from my original opening post - I did keep on and eventually got - to me - a result in that I gained overall more than I actually paid to the store. Yes it took dogged determination to get a result.
While I - in general - share your views, other do not and are entitled to their opinions. My wife shares HDs outlook and more than once quipped that I spent more time writing "support" tickets to the store than I did on anything else.

There is another outlook - we in "the West" have had consumer laws for generations - China has not and its their way of trading. Even mighty mega rich DJI are pathetic on customer relations and after sales service. But buying outside China and we get our countries consumer law warranty - usually 12 months - with conditions. Not all the Chinese stores are as bad as the mini group I purchased from. FoxtechFPV are OK... a not delivered order was replaced and I also got a $25 gift token for my inconvenience. I have used EmaxModels, BangGood, and HobbyKing - of which I am not a fan and use only if they have items I want in the Au store.

The "keep at um" attitude is OK for you and I it seems... but as my wife says to me....for what money is involved - is it worth the weeks of being focused on getting a few $$ back? I accept others - as is their right - do not have the time, patience or will to flog a dead horse....

I am guessing you are English??? The Bulldog spirit.....
