A VERY Basic Question About Batteries

It WAS good advice. Don't fly on 'em once they start puffing. Soak them in salt water for safe disposal (Google it).

What to do, what to do?

All the X5's are great starter quads. They aren't new, innovative, fancy, or anything else (yes, Jackson, they're old technology!) except cheap, reliable, durable, and easy to fix. I lean toward the ones that don't have proprietary batteries because you can find all kinds of batteries that work...

What to do, what to do?

I wouldn't dare name my quads. I'd smash or lose them for sure. I leave them safely anonymous and they always come home.

    CCQ for Drones...............

This would put a very different twist on quail hunting. *pondering*

    I'm officially "that guy".

You don't have to calibrate the gyros every flight, but if it takes 10 seconds, I don't see a downside. I do this on the Symas because why not? I'm the same way withe my Phantom. I check the IMU, gyro and compass calibration every flight. I know if will give me an error if any of those are too...

    Difficulty hovering outdoors

The primary measurement is overall length. The mounts vary from manufacturer to manufacturer on brushed quads. Check the mounting carefully or Google alternative props for your quad. Most props on brushless motors slide on and are retained by a screw either straight down the prop shaft, or into...

    Difficulty hovering outdoors

Bright contrasting color on either the front or the rear is a big help in maintaining orientation as Jackson suggested. I do this with any quad I'm flying line-of-sight. Most people put the bright colors on the front, I do it the other way around. Whichever is the most intuitive to you is best...

Bugs 2 & Battery charge questions

MJX has a "store" on Ebay - find them and send them a message. When the bugs 3 came out, parts were hard to find for a while. I won't be surprised if it's the same with the Bugs 2. Linparts.com was the first place to have the parts for the 3, so you might check there. They're expensive, though!

DJI Inspire 2, Mavic Pro or Parrot BeBop Full HD?

I loathe 'my drone is better' comparisons. I think any one you're having fun with and are glad you bought is best for you. That said, it's pretty hard to argue a Bebop is 'better' than an Inspire by any measure. Good on him for loving what he flies, though!

    SUCCESS!!!

Definitely don't leave the quad drawing power overnight. You may well have already done damage to those LiPo's. Do a bit of research and reading on LiPo battery care. It will save you a lot of money in the long run.

    Good practice drone?

'Headless' mode means you can tell the quad to ignore where its nose is pointed and respond to your 'forward, back, left, right' stick inputs based on a preset 'nose' direction. It's not a super-reliable system on a quad that doesn't have GPS, and it's a terrible way to learn to fly. The best...

    help with motor options

Thank Heaven we can use a quadcopter forum for discussions like this. I was worried we might talk about the hobby that is the unifying theme that brings people here. You cannot imagine my relief.

    I'm officially "that guy".

Ideally, you want to start slow and small and avoid needing an emergency landing. If you start off trying to keep it within 10-20' of you, an emergency landing becomes cutting the throttle and letting it fall in the grass (or onto the carpet). Start by learning to hover close, with the nose...

    LiDiRC L15W WiFi/NO WiFi question

That's why I always tell new flyers to learn precise controls. ;) Start small, expand to medium, then go farther. It's usually 'jumping ahead' that loses quads. Once you have mastered precise controls, you get to cope with 'recovering from loss of orientation'! That's a separate lesson.

    LiDiRC L15W WiFi/NO WiFi question

Losing orientation is sadly part of the learning curve. Lose orientation close to you, drop the quad, then do it again until you learn to adjust for the angle of the quad. The best pilots (in my opinion) learn a lot flying close to them. Master hovering, then master forward and back , then side...
