X8w first quad

I have ordered a Syma x8w as my first quad.
Finding this site after relates to
1) age
2) stupidity.
I looked at various YouTube posts regarding the X5c and decided to go to the 8.

I hope this will be a fairly good beginners quad but any input regarding flying tips, flying exercises do's and don't would be much appreciated.
In SW uk.

Hi RJB. I'm new to this forum too. Seems like you've made a solid choice. I'm off out today to pick up either the X5SC or X8W. I'll post some flight vids once I'm up and running. As for tips and exercises, I'd advise you to have a read thru some of the threads on here. There's a wealth of knowledge and if you have any specific questions after then ask.

I am waiting for the quad as I bought it from china, I hope there are no problems with it as I didn't realise it wasn't Uk stock.

I am gleaning knowledge from here, so by the time it arrives ill be an expert lol.

It's the training exercises I wish to learn as being an old chap I will have to steadily build up my cognitive skills slowly.

Happy new year to you.

Syma x8w as my first quad.
Not a good choice for a first quad. Too big. Everyone should start with something small and inexpensive. Something that doesn't have as much potential to hurt something or some one and that you won't feel the need to baby.

I went and got myself an X5SC this morning. Maybe you should pick one up Bob? It cost me £50. I'll get a X8W or X8G as my next quad once I've mastered the smaller one.
As for the training exercises, I've read that starting off flying in a small box area then slowly building up is a good way to go.

too late as I have bought it now so will baby it best I can.I will be on my own open substantial land so no worries of losing or hurting anyone (unless me lol) until I am good at flying.I have loads of time so will buy a few more batteries (which ones?) and practice and practice.

I bought mine for £56 so that's why I ended up with the 8 as it seemed a rather good buy.
I'll see how it goes at first, if I feel I have bitten off more than I can chew I will get the 5.

That's the problem, the only way to get good is to always push your limits and try new things... if you aren't crashing you aren't learning. :)

That's a good start, mastering various maneuvers in an organized manner. Just going out and flying randomly will just drag out the learning process.

Good Luck to both of you.

Thanks! I haven't been able to take the X5 out yet due to the stormy weather we've had in the UK but gave her an indoor test flight and everything seems to be functioning fine which is a good start! Hopefully I'll take her out for a maiden flight tomorrow.

that was quick getting the x5?
Where did you buy it?
I might get one too if mine is a drawn out delivery, as of yet I don't know when it will arrive.

I got mine from Red5. I'm from Stoke so have a local store to collect from but they also have an online shop. They're UK based so delivery times should be minimal. Being as you're in SW I'd say Cardiff or Southampton are your nearest shops.
Their website is http://www.red5.co.uk all the info you should need is on there. They've currently got a 15% sale on as well. You can order one in either white or black. I had to go for white as that's all they had in stock at the store.

thanks will have a look.

well the x8w arrived monday and it flies so well, really pleased. Now the learning process.
Oh cameranot the best but ok.

That's great news! The X5SC is flying well too. Only had it out a few times because of the bad weather but I'm getting the hang of it now. My main issue is fighting the wind with it being so light but it's a great learning curve. Yes camera is basic but ok.

I have an X8C and love it!

My son has the X5C, and it's also a great quad... it's better for indoors and outdoors, while I prefer the X8C for outside. The X8C is too large for indoor flights.

Post some videos when you have a chance!

Here are two recent videos of me flying my X8C... I'm still a newbie! It nearly gets away from me in the first video!
