Twister Quattro X - Mind of its own

As the title suggest my twister decided not to respond to the transmitter.

Copter was in full manual mode, about 1m off the ground. I was practising landing and take off, when for no reason it just started hovering up to 3-4m then down to 2m then up, and so on. I finally ran over grabbed the landing skid and forced it down (with spinning carbon props it was a little unnerving). Battery was no indicting as low, sky was clear.

WHAT THE HELL. IS THIS ABOUT??????

Yes it does. However the quad was in full manual mode. Not using the GPS function like RTH, altitude control, gps hold. That's what makes this very concerning.

Hmm, interesting. Sounds like a GPS problem. Has this happened more than once? Also you should lock the GPS before taking off even if you don' plan to use it. There could have been some sort of interference that blocked the Tx's signal and maybe even the GPS signal at the same time.

The GPS was locked with a solid green light. I find it hard to imagine that the GPS and transmitter were blocked. This is the first time this has happen, and I am really put off. It's dangerous to have these things doing whatever they like. And with carbon props it could end badly for a person walking by. I have tried to communicate with model Engines Australia about other issues this quad has had (props falling off) and they were entirely dismissive. I would stay away from the Twister if I had another quad to buy. Since I put after market carbon props with integrated hubs the props have been perfect.

Flying along then suddenly the quad doesn't respond to the transmitter. Under NO circumstances should that ever ever ever ever happen. No anomaly, no poor signal, no cloud, or wind should ever make a quad uncontrollable.

Is this the same one?

The bottom one yes. The Cheerson apparently has different hardware and software, even though the body is identical. I know every quad can be vulnerable to GPS issues. But in full manual, I assume the quad is working off a radio signal from the transmitter. I would have though this is a fail safe, unless the batteries go flat.

Hard to say how different they are, probably a lot has to do with when you bought it. I guess you will need to open it up and see what's in it, also looking to make sure everything appears properly connected/soldered.

There's tons of info and vids on the Cheerson.

Your best bet would be to head over here.

They talk about identifying the various boards etc. Seems these would be the folks who may be able to help you out.

I assume you've watch both these vids, seems rather specific on initial and manual setup.

Yep watched all the model engines youtube videos. Apparently the model engines guys developed the Twister especially for Australia. They moved the GPS into the tower and the compass into the body, updated the hardware and firmware, painted the front orange and released it. I am well and truly put off model engines as a company. Their after sales service sucks. I wrote them a letter explaining my experience with their products, and that as a first time customer it hasn't gone well. They simple ignored it.

Not sure I follow Jackson. Are you saying that Cheerson and Twister are ultimately the same? And that randomness from BangGood deliveries confirms this?

I have the one on the right. What is important to me is whether or not the quad can be 'trusted'. Does it work off a radio signal when in manual mode? If it does, then the bloody thing is a hazard.

Hi after a bit of help I've got the twister quattro x and have no problema with it. One question I can't find an answer to is how do you auto reset the trim ie sticks down to the right or hold left for 30secs ect ect. Any one with an idea please

I had the same issue with mine twice. First time i was bringing into land on orientation mode and all of a sudden it shot up and forwards then spiraled down to the ground smashing it. Took it back and the place i bought ot off repaired it.

Then on the very next flight i took off was about a meter off the ground in manual mode and the same thing happened took it back and they replaced it.

2nd twister is hoing great now
