transmitter/receiver question

Hey guys, this is my first post. I've been flying toy quality quads for the past few weeks and I really enjoy it, and i've decided to take the step up and build a 250 fpv racer. So my question is:

My dad has a walkera wk2801 radio that he is willing to sell me, first wI'll this be a good quad radio? And second, I was looking at a frsky transmitter on hobby king, will these be compatible? And if not, what do I need to look for in terms of compatibility?

Lastly, I'll post my whole build if someone would be willing to check it out for me and give me some tips, if not we can save that for another day.

Welcome to the forum,
I could not find much info on your Tx, but I believe that Walkera uses DSS, and if yours does use DSS modulation then this should work.

Go ahead and post your part list and we can take a look at it and see if anything looks out of place, or if there are any ideas we might have.

Kim 250 pro frame with a fitted power distribution board, cc3d controller, hobby wing xrotor 15 amp esc's, quantum Mt 1806 2300 kv motors, gem fan 5030 rotors, 1.7 amp power filter, frsky 8 channel reciever and a simple hobby king osd module. For the fpv setup fatshark has a kit for 200 bucks right now that comes with predator goggles, a camera and a transmitter

I would suggest you get some 2204-2300kv motors or a little bigger than 1806-2300kv Here is a comparison. Here is a thread that may provide some useful info for FPV.

I'm not really sure, haven't asked yet. He builds lipo batteries and alot of other stuff for rc cars and trucks for a living, helicopters were just something he got into and then kind of abandoned. I'm probably gonna coerce him into throwing in a few batteries and a balance charger, plus all the random wiring and connectors I need, use of his soldering iron, his random knowledge about rc that might help, etc.
