Syma X8G - replacing the PCB board and a few questions

I recently rescued my drone from a 30ft tree... it fell the distance and we got breakage. We still power up, but the leds on the drone flash rapidly but do not slow down. Although once I did get them to slow down and I flew the drone for about 2 seconds... but now its flashing rapidly and nothing changes that.

I'm assuming that the PCB board is toast.

1. Is the board different on the X8C, W vs G? I would assume it is, but I see a lot of replacement boards saying it will work for all three.

2. Prop guards... and props.. available in a variety of colors... is there any discernable quality difference that anyone has observed? The original black had soft blades (easily bent), twisty but resilent guards that got in the way of the blades and useless legs. I switched everything to green, and the blades are stronger but more brittle. The green prop guards are junk, but the green legs are very stiff and strong.

3. I know there are mods that can be done... since I think I have to replace my PCB board... other than opening up my battery bay so I can squeeze in 2500 or 3000mah... are there any no brainer type mods I should consider?

Sorry to hear your quad's broken. A very similar thing happened to me quite recently on my X8C and I had to replace the board. I'm not sure if the board is the same for the C, G and W, the site where you buy it should say this. I think I remember reading in Gearbest that they're not the same, but I could be wrong.

In terms of mods, obviously the first thing to do is to get rid of the stock camera, at least that's true for the X8C. With regards to a bigger battery, it's a very tempting thing to do, but the extra weight is something to consider.

Oddly gearbest doesn't have any boards for X8 series. Or I just missed it (its early, I have no coffee... I must cry tears into my pity cup, lol). I haven't even flown with the camera yet, the X8G is supposed to be better than the previous ones by quite a bit. While I'm at it I need to replace my prop guards...

That's right, I order it first from Gearbest and after 4 weeks they haven't shipped it, turns out it was out of stock so I cancelled the order and bought on ebay.

You're right the camera of the X8G is much better, but you will still have a lot of jello, you might want to come up with a new mount.

I've seen two board numbers not sure which is which.

X8C-5 and X8C-17... I am guessing that the 17 might be for the X8G.

I haven't tried the camera yet, I figured I better learn to fly first... save the camera from when I'm competent.

Anyhow... Whats your opinion on prop guards... necessary or extraneous?

If you're just learning then definitely necessary. Once you've mastered it will enough then definitely take them off as the Quad will fly do much better without them.

The X8 prop guards are pathetic, way too flimsy for the weight of the quad.
Is the quality any different depending on color, I noticed that that the green kit I got.. the guards were beyond pathetic and the original black guards lasted much much longer but also rather sad. I guess what I'm hoping for is that someone found something that works, if not i'll get them again and put paper clips in between the plastic to give them support.

Also is the X8C-17 the correct board for the X8G quad copter?

Try eBay, and query "Syma X8 drone parts". Just about everything except the body itself is available. Sometimes with free shipping. I completed the antenna mod on my throttle controller last weekend, using a 2 dbi wifi antenna that I got two of from an eBay seller for less than $5.00. The other one will be going on my drone. Including using a soldering iron, it took less than an hour (a couple of screws holding the case together were stripped, which delayed opening it).

I'm putting a syma x8 hg. Hw. And hc board with new TX I my j70c bought longer arms to make 90 degrees what do u think
Are the wiring harnesses for the motors long enough to reach the ends of the new arms? If not, plan on doing some soldering to splice in additional wire of the proper gauge and insulation colors (and matching wire type, whether solid or stranded), to get everything to match properly.

I used a X8hg board when I did mine. Also ordered a HG controller to match. The Quad works well with either controller and now has altitude hold.
