Hello...I am Tim......New to this forum......I bought a new Syma X8C and think this is a great starting platform for anyone entering the quadcopter scene...attached is my latest flying video
Check them out and let me know what you all think....
I have many quadcopters of different types.......Lets chat....Tim

I am now flying the Syma X8C shown as my avatar....I mounted an Andoer gimble for anti-vibration, and am using a re-purposed 8mp 1080p 60 fps camera that came originally on an Ares Athos HD that my brother bought...and subsequently broke the usb plug off of the camera, rendering it useless ...TO HIM....
I opened the case..removed the battery and soldered a pigtail to use external power from a batt. placed opposite the camera for balance.....Bird...and all shown...I am into .......less than 140 bucks....Not bad?
BTW...your 10 years in small circuitry.....will be accentuated by my 30 years.....
I was a communications specialist.. doing telecommunications for the US Army..way back in the early 80's....precision soldering was one of my favorite courses...6 weeks.
you never forget that stuff....been into RC since the 70's

Oh..and I guess .......I should mention....I have an AAS Degree in Micro Computer Support....with programming...animation....Linux..Unix....Cisco networking Academy...hardware..software...Mac programming....I spent a few years in college.......at age 50

Sounds great, looks like you will certainly be an asset to the forums. So did you go for a CCNA or CCNP in the Cisco networking academy? I am in it right now, and will confirm that they sure have watered it down from curriculum 10 years ago hahaha.

CCNA...and I friggen hated addressing....failed the first time through.......barely scraped through the second time....I changed my major from Network Admin...to Support specialist after that........
I worked my butt off to get through....

hahaha subnetting is something that most people seem to either get 100% or not at all. It helps a lot to have an instructor that knows how to teach it well. With IPv6, subnetting is more of a formality to help the tech as you don't have broadcast domains to worry about hahaha. The curriculum is a lot more networking focused as Cisco took out a lot of the more in depth small circuitry repair and diagnostics. Sounds like you really like to branch out in the topics you study.

Yes I do..But the College Degree was a re-training program through the Washington dept. of Labor and Industries, after a work related back injury partially disabled me...I chose the best option at that time...
But my paid work now days has Nothing to do with my degree....I am a Fabrication Engineer at a transportation Company.....I hated working from a desk......so went back to what I do best...
I build things....

If we could get paid cost of living and expenses to design and build things, I'm sure most of us would kill to get the job hahahaha.

Well then just get in line to kill me.......Cause not only do I run the department...But I am paid salary
and get lots of paid time off to go fly....PS my boss is just like me...only HE is a flight instructor, pilot, engineer, and Helicopter instructor to boot...and he fly's RC heli's...so I live the dream.....lol..

Hahaha, it is going to be a long line then, and I hate lines :P

No numbers needed....Just line up with the rest.......
but you guys can rest assured, at least I'm not getting rich doing what I do....hardly...
But my life has way less stress than most...and my wife lives at another address...lmao....Or should I say...BECAUSE she lives at another address......
Oh and BTW...My wife hates my 45 yr old girlfriend....hahahahahahahahahahahahah

Hey...Smart guy.....I have been inspired with an idea....
Is it possible to convert a smaller quad...X5 clone for example...to a tricopter by eliminating one of the front rotors and re-positioning the three properly??obviously I would have to fab a custon frame...
but I wonder...?? will the gyro recalibrate properly...there is no way to change any firmware on the RX
so .......what would happen????this is a cheap bird I can afford to experiment with...but it does have camera ability, so if it would work...might be cool....let me know...I am off today...snicker snicker.....and bored

Will not work as you need a tail servo to control the yaw axis any time you have an odd number of motor/props. Also it would require the motors to be in a different place relative to each other and the flight controller, which would require modification of the stabilization's math/algorithm.

The reason you need an even number for even yawing is how the craft yaws. Take a look at this chart on different movements, also take a look at this.

Makes perfect sense....but I am guessing the similar chart for three blades...will show same relationship to ..front ..back...and left and right..in relation to power vs movement....with rear supplying more than front..to move forward and such...and ...see ..this is what happens when I get bored....
Roads have thawed...maybe I will just head out and shoot some more vids...
