I added wire to my antenna on the radio that came with my wife's new quad. I put on the length needed for a full wave but I only used a piece of copper wire about 18 gauge. Does it matter that it is not specifically antenna wire??? I had her walk out away from the house a ways and it seems to go way out there though I didn't check it before I made the modification.

Should be OK, the wire type is not important. Remember the total length includes the old stub + new. A 1/2 wave 62.5 mm is usually all that is needed.

Thanks, I'm sure I got the length correct as I measured it with my verniers. I included the existing length which I soldered onto the additional wire. Probably would have been sufficient to use half wave length but I just ran the full wave length wire around the handle pocket so it doesn't show at all.
I have been flying only a month or so my first quad was a Dromida-Kodo, very difficult to fly, even in the house with no wind- I didn't like it at all. I recently purchased a VooDoo 280 as well and have been trying to learn in a small yard but I'm using a lot of props. This Syma X5C-1 was purchased for my wife and is much much easier to fly for a newbie. She is flying it pretty well also.

Nice. FWIW if you fly around trees dump the prop guards, they are the ultimate branch hooks. :)

Some good stuff to watch.
