Stock USB charger question.

Please be gentle.
I now have two identical looking standard 'red light' usb chargers, but are they identical inside?
One charges a 200mAh battery and the other newer charger came with the XC5-1, which of course is 500mAh.
No prizes as to what my question is. :D

Actually, one more question if I may?
These multi-chargers, do they charge different powered batteries?

They both should be for 3.7v single cell lipo batteries...The problem is ,the ones that come with quads arent really all that great and, in most cases overcharge batteries which destroys them prematurely...They typically overcharge the battery which is a bad thing...As long as the plugs are compatible either charger should be pretty much equal.

Investing in a "real" charger now will save you money in the long run..Not sure of your geographical location but if in the U.S. i buy from here...I like the imax and GensAce chargers.

I just bought an Imax B6 Mini. I did have to also get a parallel board to charge the Blade Nano Qx & Qx 3D. For the x5c-1 batteriesi have an adapter cable on the way that will do 5 batteries at once. The charger that acme with my Nano Qx and the cheap eBay charger I bought for the x5c-1 batteries was over charging them according to my volt/ohm meter.

No I have one of those I got from Amazon, it overcharges plus the plugs don't stay in well. I also got one of my battery plugs stuck in it.

I have one charger that came with a cheap toy quad that actually cuts off at 4.21v every time but, i would chalk that up as luck getting one that actually works properly.

If you have a volt meter i would say at minimum check the battery voltage right after its finished charging...Anything over 4.23v is over charging and will slowly destroy your batteries.

Make sure you check asap after a charge, as after a battery sits for 10 minutes or so, it drops in voltage anyways so, to be somewhat accurate it needs to be immediately after you notice its finished charging.

Beware of ALOT of fake imax chargers..Shop from a reputable seller or business and it should be in the $40-$50 range as an authentic would be..if its $29.99 its more than likely a fake.

Since I now have 16 1S batteries of various amperage I bought a HiTec x4 Mini charger . I can charge 4 at once of various amperage and it tracks each one as well as monitors the condition of each. I can also charge to exactly 50% for storage. It's about $45.00 on Amazon. I have chargers for 2S - 6S but had nothing except USB crap for the 1S. Not anymore!

Is this the charger HDtallrider that you mentioned in your post. I've been looking at purchasing a syma x5c-1 and several batteries but Im not sure what batteries and charger to purchase in the UK?

I also found this charger but again wasn't sure what I was actually looking for

Yep. The first one (X4 micro from HiTec) is the one I have. On the batteries. I haven't bought any by brand, just by size. I get the 680mah ones because they fit perfectly with no modifications and add 2-4 minutes flight time. A number of folks have been using the Turnigy 750mah battery, but you have to modify the connector and the battery bay. I'm just too lazy for the slight gain in flight time and extra cost. Don't forget extra props. Lot's of them!
You should consider removing the camera in the beginning. The quad will fly longer and handle better. It takes only a minute to install if you want to take videos. It also cuts your flight time dramatically. Give the motors a minute to cool down between battery changes and don't charge your batteries when they're hot.
You're gonna love that little Syma!:)

Im not sure which model number of the battery is correct...Its not so much the polarity thats wrong but how the plug is situated...Some might get the wrong idea because the plug doesnt fit but one way that it must be correct and end burning frying the pcb board.

I suppose which ever battery you get you would want make sure its correct no matter what.

Its really just a small increase in flight time and works its best using no camera and landing gear or guards..Its a quite a bit heavier than the stock 500 mah battery...I would expect motor life to decrease from the added strain..Its already at its near limits, stock.

Personally, im not much of a Turnigy nano tech battery fan but, its what some are using and i just passed along the word.

You are 'looking at it wrong'. Take a closer look, no wire switching needed, simply plug and play.

Batteries are like most anything, in that you will find a lot of false advertisement and should take the "claimed" numbers with a grain of salt.

Having learned quite a bit about batteries used with vaping , i see no reason to believe its any different with most any battery application.

Im not sure who makes these tiny 1s 2s batteries but you can be assured the majority are going to be cheap B grade batteries that are re branded and sold cheap or even way over priced.

One battery for rc ive taken notice of are Hyperion batteries...Ive seen quite a few battery tests comparing them to others and they always seem to finish at the top...They are pricey but a well performing battery transfers to the performance of the RC as we all know....Actually the stock 120mah battery that came with the popular WL TOYS V911 a few years back finished at the top as the hyperion did...Its sad to say but turnigy batteries were not even in the ball park with performance at the time.

There are a some "stock" batteries that may work better than you think..Its just going to take some tests to determine how good they are.

I happen to know a guy that sells and tests batteries for vape products and has all the equipment to do an extensive comparison...I may give him a shout and, see if he would be interested in doing such comparison for us toy quad guys.

I sent John an email hoping he would be interested in doing this for us...I proposed sending him all the cells needed to use in the comparison.

My thoughts are a stock 500 mah syma x5 battery and a few of the "upgrade" batteries in between, as well as the turnigy 750 mah battery for comparison.

If he accepts , if anyone would like to donate a battery to him for the test comparison, i would give you his info on where to ship and, if you want the battery or batteries back you can make arrangements to do that.

He will be able to check actual capacity as well as how accurate the c ratings or max amp loads are...Also how long in minutes a battery lasts depending on loads placed on it...He is well known in the vaping community as a trusted battery vendor and, has all the proper equipment to accurately test batteries.

Ill let you all know what he says when he responds back.

I would be up for that. I don't feel I have given batteries the attention they deserve. I have 4 different brands of 1s batteries and 4 different 2s and 3s. I "broke" my only 4s but I would be willing to wait before replacing it if your friend agrees to do this. It's coming up on winter anyway. Even if he only does the 1s it would be a help. Thanks Mike.

FWIW Dustin Dunnill tested the Turnigy in the original X5C.

Stock battery- 7m 20s of flight time.
Turnigy- 11m 30s. that's a pretty substantial increase ~50% MORE. Not too shabby.

He also had no problem simply putting it into the stock cavity.

I believe I see where I got my info wrong. When I decided on the Syma X5 and started scouring the net for reviews and mods I didn't know there was a difference in the X5c and X5c1 as well as different Turnigy 1s 750mah batteries. There were mod videos I watched showing how to change the plug and use an Exacto knife to cut away the pin in the back of the battery box to fit the Turnigy battery in. That may have been for the X5c although it probably had more to do with the specific battery being used.
Anyway. Thanks Jackson and RGJameson. I wish I'd seen the above video and known about the different Turnigy battery configurations then. Live and learn.....

The key is 'Walkera' in the desription, this cable can easily be used to charge multiple Syma batteries with a hobby charger.

Seeing as it's parallel wired be best to use batteries on the same type/mAh, plug them in, let them sit a couple minutes (the voltages will self equalize) then charge them up.

The jst end should plug right into the jst cable adapter (#6) that many chargers come with.
