Recommendations for my next Quadcopter?

Hello,

My first quadcopter was a simple unit without camera, which I tired of quickly and gave to my nephew, who crashed it without delay.

My second bird had a camera, but did not transmit live video, but stored the images on a photo card, which I uploaded to my computer to see what the drone saw.

My present drone is a palm-sized unit, which I bought to entertain my cats, who love to swipe at it as it hovers near the floor!

Now I'm looking for a quadcopter with camera, which transmits live images to a controller with a built-in video screen, because I don't have a cell phone or Wi-Fi, for $200 or less.

Thanks,
HiDesertHal

That would be my recommendation as well. If you can plunk down the extra money for the "professional" version, consider it. You will get more reliable performance at longer ranges. Also, they sell a $15-20 range extender kit which should improve signal quality, even if you don't need more range.

I'd consider Banggood or Gearbest to save some money. They're both reliable, if slow. Pay with PayPal and you have a money-back protection in any case. I buy a ton of stuff from Banggood, only had one issue (shipped to a bungled address and was returned to the shipper) and was promptly refunded so I could re-purchase and get it on the way.

Thanks Rick, but I've had a long-standing account with Amazon, and their shipping is fast with payment from my Visa.

I agree that Jackson's second-mentioned model is preferable. For an extra $14, you get a larger screen, too.

The first link price, $206 was for the 'standard' controller which has the slightly larger screen as you see in the Walmart link (same version). The advanced/pro controller has a smaller screen and is $36 more.

For that extra dough you get slicker build quality and dual fancy antennas (left for the quad @ 2.4ghz and right for the 5.8ghz FPV signal) for more overall range.

Hey Jackson,

Since I'm a bit shaky at age 81, I would probably stick to the more forgiving GPS mode all the time, and I also prefer the standard model's larger screen.

Also, I would feel paranoid if I let the quad fly more than 1/4 mile from my position. I'm more conservative in my elderly years!

Thanks for your replies!

Also consider the MJX Bugs 2 B2W which has longer distance than the Hubsan. I have a b2w and this is great, has GPS,FPV, Automatic Return to home fail safes.

Hello Hal,

Your experience nearly the same as me. I mean maybe a bit different, since i tried for a fun with cheap toy drone, then, kind of hook up to get something like a good quadcopter (not a pro, just you know, maybe it will get a lot of crash by fooling around and learn something), and maybe this hobby would elevate me to get more pro drones from time to time.

Beside Hubsan, i read everywhere random sites, i personally think that, JJRC or Holystone seem great also. Then maybe Syma X5, i mean these drones all great for a jumpstart before starting into more pro drones. This Holy Stone HS160 drone looks nice, i mean the first impression like, "What? is that Mavic?" Then when i read the details and look closer, ouh and it was Holy drone.
