Quanum Nova Compass calibration

I bought the Quantum Nova from Hobby King and got a good price but have had problems every time I take it out. Here are the recent problem and I really would appriate any help.

Compass will not calibrate so the motors will not unlock and the GPS Hold makes the quad fly off across the field.

When I flew the Quanum Nova quad at the local field the quad would take off across the field every time I went to GPS HOLD and the only way I could fly is in the TAKE OFF mode. The one time the quad sprinted across the field and I shut off the transmitter waiting for the quad to return to home it never found any place near the place I took off from and it flew around me until it crashed to the ground.

I went to APM Planner to check the setting of the Quanum Nova and all the setting seemed good. I did the calibration of the compass and it checked calibrated, after disconnecting from planner and trying to unlock motors the red light was flashing and the motors wouldn't unlock. Went back to APM Planer and I hear the repeat message of “COMPASS NOT CALIBRATED” over and over from planner. I tried two more times to cal the compass with planner and then disconnected and used the walk in a circle three times flat and three time in a circle nose down and the red light was still blinking and no yellow light. Not happy with this crash quad for the two weeks I have been flying it. Has anyone else had these issue??

I really would appriate any help.

I am having the exact same problem
Never had a GPS fix, green light yet and flown around 5 times
But keep getting "compass not calibrated" even tho I've tried both methods

There must not be any Quantum Nova pilots here haha.

Check that you are doing everything proper.

Instead of "dancing" just spin it in your hands , being careful to keep it horizontal and then vertical. Mine locked immediately. I didn't read all the instructions ('cause I'm a guy) and did it the same way I do my MiniX. Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut..........

Hahahaha.

Hobby king has always been bad on manuals, you find what its a clone of then try and get the manual for that

I finally went ahead and read the manual. In section 4 Basic Operation it does describe spinning as part of the compass calibration process. It is a 2 part process that they don't do a very good job of describing. My advice is to place the Tx in mode 2 as described in section 3, part 2. Complete procedure 1 of the compass calibration. Switch to mode 1 and complete the 2nd procedure. While leaning over, not "dancing" like that stupid video, spin the quad 5 times horizontally then point the nose at the ground and spin it 5 times vertically. I did mine correctly by accident right after the binding step. This is so similar to the SuperX-miniX procedure that I use that it worked.

It seems to depend on whether you have a "real" CX20 or a clone ( and which clone you have ). Look at the posts on the forum for Riceman; calibrating the Cheerson CX20 compass. The methods on there are pretty much all that the forum members have had experience with. Please pass on any additional info you may learn along the way. The poor little CX20 is becoming quite the problem child with all the clones( illegal, I might add ) coming out and confusing everyone.

I had to wait quite a long time for mine to see enough sats to work. I mean a LONG time. Worked fine after it found enough sats.

Hi mate this also happen some times with the phantom , move the quad 4 feet and try again its works most times

The Nova compass can be wrong orientation, easily checked with MP, point the quad east/west, if it displays opposite then change compass orientation parameter from 180 deg to none, also change compass to external (1) not internal. This comes from the FC board being mounted inverted and without an internal compass.

Just got my Phantom 3 Pro, compass dance / spin is very important, make sure you are at least 15 meters away from any electromagnetic devices, this includes cell phones, electric car keys and ferrous / magnetic metals. Tried setting it sitting at my metal patio set in the backyard ( that was a joke ) moved to the center of the yard and it calibrated quickly.
