out of range syma x5sc

i have the syma x5sc, been practicing a lot over the last few days and i have started to take the quadcopter higher now, i can get it to about as high as a normal house at a nice hover, then if i take it a bit more higher it starts to wobble and drops fast. i can get control back so it does not crash into the ground when its about 10 meters high. just wondered what would happen when its out of range.

To test take it in your hand and put the throttle up, then turn off the Tx. This will show you what the fail safe is set to do.

The wobbling can be cause by it only getting the signal part of the time, but it should have better range than that.

Range is about 30 to 40 meters on this model..You can do a simple "range mod" to the stock tx and get very close to 100m if not more...You can find all you need to know on how to do this on youtube..Just search "XC51 range mod".

My x5c is at a park, stuck in a tree! :D been there for a day, I'll go get it when I have time hahaha. It's about 25' up and black, only I know where it is. Cracks me up

Hahahahaha, latter or climb? I have fallen from 25', and can tell you it is no fun.

Im making it a note to not fly around trees whenever possible...lol

Yea, that range mod is a must pretty much..its cheap too.

A UFL to RP-SMA pig tail and a +/- 3db or 5db 2.4g antenna and you're good to go.

I wouldnt go higher than 5db though...the higher you go the more directional it tends to become...More less you cant have the antenna face the quad or youll lose signal...3db is actually enough for a range increase.

Leave the antenna on the board alone though...it should already be 1/4 range at 31mm long...Good for 100m + already....Less than $10.00 to do the mod.

Or you could go with 30bd and get a tracker setup xD Range would be better than your battery life hahaha.

I couldnt fly something i couldnt see without FPV....lol

Thats why im thinking about a micro fpv set up but it needs to be contained inside the shell...the camera lens sticking through the front center of the body...Problem is space inside the shells on the syma x5 and mounting the reciever...The only place is to mount it on one of the arms and thats throws it off balance and burns up the motor on that arm.

Once i get to that project ill figure something out..lol

For now its my new school hybrid project..Just bought the frame i needed :p

+1.....cool idea bad execution...its too easy to build a platform over the fcb to mount it all more centered...he doesnt really need the extra weight of the battery either if he would lighten up the quad a bit and just use the flight battery as power to the fpv.

Rope and a small pipe wrench tied on it, then throw until you can drag the rope into it or jar it loose!!! Works for me!
Or you have a friend tie a shoddy knot and get a pipe wrench to the head ;) A monkey's fist knot is a lot more friendly if it hits you hahahaha
