Newb here, bought RTF QAV 250 knock off, update firmware and settings - no flying

Hello All,

I am newb here, bought RTF QAV 250 knock off, update firmware and settings - not flying. My quad was flying but very sloppy so decided to install open pilot and update firmware and settings. Now the Quad will run all the motors but does not take off, when I give the full throttle, it flips violently. Not sure what could be the issue. I have been looking on the youtube and tried updating the settings and nothing seems to work. Need help and please see the video for the problem

Hard to tell from the vid, what's good about YouTube is the ability to slow the vid way down to see your props and motor rotation. Are you absolutely sure they are correct?

That said you should start over with LibrePilot instead of Open.

Thanks for you response, Yes motors are turing correctly. What will be different in LibrePilot as compared to open pilot just asking because I never used that before.

Yes motors are turing correctly.

And the props are the correct ones for each location? That sure does seem to be the problem.

LibrePilot picked up when OpenPilot stopped being updated/ supported.

Hmm, My props all look correct like you showed in the picture. I think my ESCs are not calibrated properly and I noticed when setting my idle, front left always needs higher number to start. I tried to sync all ESCs several time but nothing is fixing it. I keep breaking props by flipping and falling several time.

I think Jackson was on track with his first post. I have a hard time believing incorrect ESC calibration would cause that violent a reaction. I stopped your video and put it on full screen and could swear that the props aren't correct, just can't be sure. Can you post a close up of your props not spinning?

Well props and rotation seems to be correct. I don't know if it's a contributing factor but you do need to move your battery forward. It is too rear heavy as it stands.

As it stands the FC will be constantly working much harder than it needs to as it tries to keep the quad level.

Did you run thru sensor calibration while the quad was perfectly level?

Yes, I did run through sensor calibration, I swear I used to fly with the same setup for a while and it started act like this only after I connected to open pilot and updated the firmware.

Any chance your fcb orientation got switched 180 degrees when you flashed the new firmware, or was already 180 and you forgot to change it back?

I am not sure how it was setup when I bought it and not sure how to check that.

First we need to know which way your board is facing. There's a gold arrow on the CC3D, is it pointing forward?

What I noticed on bench is that when I try to pus the thrust, right front and rear left are starting first and half throttle all motors run and I checked the yaw, when give half throttle and do left yaw, left front motor and rear right motor spins which I assume is correct and it does vice versa. I cannot tell why until halfway throttle two opposite motors does not spin.

Sure sounds like your ESCs are still not calibrated properly. If you haven't used this method already, try this:
With no power, move your throttle stick all the way forward
Plug in battery, you're ESCs should give 3 chimes instead of 5 (calibration mode)
Move your throttle stick all the way down, you'll get 3 more chimes and ESCs are calibrated
Unplug your battery and plug it back in again, see if motors are spinning up correctly now

Don't forget to take your props off first!

I think my arrow on the board is facing backwards meaning rear of the quad. How do I tune it to face correctly. Please see the attached picture.

How do I arm my controller if I disconnect the battery. when I disconnect, it disconnects form controller right and when I connect back I have to arm by moving my yaw stick right. Confused

It's just a command between your transmitter and ESCs. Has nothing to do with the controller, it should be disconnected from Openpilot.

I followed the procedure and when I move the throttle down, I do not get any chimes.

Did you have the stick all the way forward (full throttle) before you plugged the battery in? When you plug it in, your ESCs should talk to you (not necessarily 3 chimes, depends on the ESCs). Now quickly move your stick all the way down. They should talk again.

Also, this will help with your board orientation. Please note part way down where it says you have to reset the settings whenever you change your firmware - which you did.
