New to Quadcopter

ok so i am a big time Noobie on this matter. i want to get into flyin and customizing a quadcopter but dont know where to start. 1st let me say long term goal is to be able to build my own and fly it with FPV. now that is said i read a few forms and watch lots of youtube. Most forms and video say look into the parts before buying, well if i am new i dont know what i need beside the basic. also want to learn to fly a quad without getting scared of it falling or breaking. i dont want to put over $1K into a quad if i dont know how to fly it or build it and crash the second it lifts off. so i guess what i am saying is:

1: a good starter quad for noobies to get the hang of flying low flight and short range
2: goes with the 1st one but with FPV for high flights and long range
3: getting started in building. i know i need a controller, stabilizer, GPS, motors, ect ect.

thanks for all your help

Hi Stitch, welcome to the forum and a hobby of a life time , i see you have your head screwed on right , learn to fly first is a great move , now so you dont waste any money , look into getting a spektrum dx6i or a dx8 ,this will give you a good transmitter to move into the hobby with as you grow, the dx 8 is better than the 6 as it has 8 channels that will be handy later if you get into helis or add ons , the dx6i will do as most of the work is done by the FCB (flight control board) but you wont have any but 1 spare channel that you can used.
Now if you go for the spektrum you can now get a nano qx or the mqx quads they came BNF ( bind and fly) then use this to learn to fly, now they also do a big quad qx 380 that will carry a go pro camera, its has smart tech so this is cheating in a way as the quad knows what you want it to do ,What i mean is if the quad is tail in to you and you push forward on the stick it will move away from you , if its nose in as it know where you are and it is as you push forward on stick it moves away from you as it know you want it to move that way , a normal quad will come to you as forward on the stick is forward on the quad and it is facing you i hope you understand that part.
now you can also build your own there are lots of frames out there starting at £9 up to £165 thats just for the frame then motors can be as cheap as you want up to £52 a motor, props are the same cheap or the best .
a RTF ( ready to fly) will cost about 1k up to 3k for a good one with FPV , FPV on its own can cost £250 plus , its all down to if you wanting the best or middle or cheap they will all do the job but badly , not bad , or omg this system is great .
So learn to fly and while your doing this save and save some more then i am more than willing to help you sort out your dream quad with FPV ,GPS return home mode etc i dont know if you looked at the (so you want a multirotor thread i put in newbie section this will show you what can be done
i forgot to say the nano qx can fly in doors as well as out and if you put it in agility mode its very fast will loop and roll well it turns into a acro quad watch the videos i put up, there is an acro quad on there the nano qx will fly nearly as well there is also a new 180 qx quad with camera already fitted will work with spektrum too as its a blade product
IF you want any more help just ask

Thanks Holtneil,
your information is great. i think i will start off with getting the DX8 since it will be able to grow with me in the long run. also since i will be starting slow i am also going to get the Nano QX good starter and not to pricey since this will be my learn to fly and if it crashes im good.

also where is the video you post up?
