New member and Quad flyer

So, same story as most. Bought a couple "toy" quads and flew around the house with the kids. Bought a Eachine Wizard x220 ARF kit for Xmas. I already had RC FliteTest planes (re-kindled that obsession last year) and Flysky transmitter, receiver, batteries.

Yesterday was the first flight since I received the Wizard. No wind and not to cold. No crashes (only one close call) and it felt awesome (and scary at the same time). I didn't try the FPV goggles at all... need to get comfortable with the LOS first. I was surprised the power of the 1300 3S battery and also that it wasn't as loud as I thought it would be. Can't wait to fly again...

A few questions post virgin flight:
  1. Before the first flight I changed from the arm/de-arm from the left stick to a switch. I noticed that after arming (with the switch) that I still have to throttle up/down one time before the motors would actually respond. Is this normal or do I have something setup incorrectly?
  2. I plugged into the Betaflight and changed a few settings (beginner quad) as shown in a YouTube Wizard video. I felt like I had a lot of expo in yaw yesterday. I was planning to reduce some of that in Betaflight before my next flight. I was thinking today (while at work) that I might still have Expo setup in the Flysky since it was previously being used with a "brainless" plane. Should I remove any expo in the Flysky and just go with the Betaflight?

Thanks for any tips and advice.
John

Hi John welcome to the forum , The arm is best on the throttle rudder as you dont want to knock the switch and crash as the motors cut out , also have to move the stick in 2 directions is a safe feature a switch is to easy to knock to arm
there should be no mixing or expo in the transmitter all sticks should give 100% movement ,you use stick scaling in the Flight Control Board to tame the beast , if the expo is in the FCB then this is ok
sounds like you have the Bug sorry to say there is no cure other than buy more quads

Thanks for the advice. I think (for now) I'm going to stick with the switch for arming/disarming. Maybe I'll get burned on that one by accidental switch in flight. I felt like the down and to the right or left could happen in flight by accident too though.

I've got two boys (10 and 13) so there will be many more quads in our family in the future. I've got a ZMR250, four 1806 motors, and FCB also sitting in a box waiting to be built next. We also just bought a 3d printer so we'll be churning out all types soon enough.

Hi I dont think you can get the throttle fully down and rudder right in flight No throttle you will crash for sure , Go with what your happy with, Do a little test when the motors are spinning with quad on the floor hit the switch and see if it cuts out then your know for sure if it will kill it in flight

Should I remove any expo in the Flysky and just go with the Betaflight?
For me I used my i6's TX expo and throttle curve with my tricopter with a CC3D FC as I could do quick adjustments/tweaks in the field. Of course with my delta foamie I had no other choice. :)
