Just one more Uber Noob discussion

Hello, this is my first thread in here. Thought i'd just say hello to start things off.

I'm totally new to drones and UAV flight. I recently got a Syma X5(something or other) It was only a cheapy cheap thing bought for me as a birthday present. I've got the bug now and i would love to build one myself. Thing is though i'm not made of money and would be looking at buying a part or component every week or so until it's built.

I'm also at a complete loss as to what i need and what each part is for. Understandably a frame is a frame and it will house components etc but transmitters and gyros? Lost.

I've been looking around and i would like a robocat 270 with fpv. I could source the parts individually rather purchase a ready made one. I'd need someone in my family to die for me to be able to do that.

Can anyone suggest a beginners guide so i can get a grip of the terminology and exactly what parts i'll need to make it fly?

Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you are talking about cost. The only way you will actually save money is if choose cheaper parts.

I guess you start here. If nothing else view and study the build guides posted in the link.

Here is another similar guide.

You may also want to consider something like this Buy & Fly alternative with it's choice of flight controllers.

Overall cost isn't an issue, I just mean I couldn't afford £250 straight off the bat, I could possibly buy the frame one week then order the rotors and blades the next. Like one of those Dagostini magazine collection things at a lower cost per week.

I've just been playing with my Syma in the garden. Not exactly top gun stuff but I set up a round table in the middle, taking off and landing on it. I even managed to pass through the legs underneath just the once. Is it always hard work to control the altitude?

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look into it.
