Im done with this hobby

The good thing is that now you have really memorable lessons that will make you not forget to make sure all of those things are in order before flying. I was in the same boat in the beginning and now I inspect everything before every flight and if in doubt, I replace stuff (especially props). I still have issues though. There are just some things that you don't see coming. That's why I always keep extra frame parts, at least one extra motor of each size, ESCs, etc. Things are much less expensive now and you can always build cheaper to be able to keep the budget to buy extra parts. In the beginning, you don't need $40 motors and carbon fiber frames and whatnot to learn the hobby. Hell, you can get GREAT control boards now for 25 bucks.

Damage sustained from crashes do lead to other crashes - which always has me paranoid after a crash, but typically really good inspection and not taking chances will keep your odds pretty good of having a good flight ready quad after the repair. Again, unless you're actually racing or you're so good at flying that you're pushing limits, you don't need expensive props, so you can always get a ton of gemfans or whatever for a few bucks and toss them in the trash and replace them after every crash or when they start to show signs of stress, or whatever. If you do that, you should spend a couple of extra bucks on a prop balancer and you're good to go. **You may also want to use different props if you're trying to shoot really clear jello free video, but by then, you will have also probably invested a lot into other measures to make your video look good, so that usually comes down the line.

With all the crashing that happens in the beginning, my best advice is to budget your build around knowing that the thing will be crashed and repaired a lot. As far as getting practice flying, a cheap RTF is usually a good idea since it should be dialed in already. Plus when you crash your quad, the day isn't over since you can keep flying the RTF to continue practicing. Then you don't waste a trip to the flying field.

More good points/ideas. Im running a 250 and a 210 and working on a 230. With two quads I feel more free to push my limits and so If I crash Im not done flying. My zmr crashed early last week, broke an arm and burned up a pcb and vtx, but I still got lots of flight time in between rain while waiting for parts. I also started my 230 X frame. Its nice to have a few quads to fly. Crashing is just part of learning and getting better. I crashed the crap out one quad while learning to set pids and rates. Just part of the hobby.

lot of good life lessons in this thread, that you don't really hear about on a daily basis, but are extremely important! i like how it was mentioned that its best to look at things just scientifically, and not get super excited and then disappointed - a lot like eastern philosophies of living detached, just take things as they are, do the best you can, and enjoy the good things.

Good, hope we have helped. Instead of thinking that you live life detached, think of it more like you are trying to living life in balance and with balance comes peace.

one thing ive done is put a strip of velcro long ways instead of across, so now the battery is secured horizontally by the velcro and vertically by the straps, so it's not going anywhere!!

and i looped the battery cable around the rear strap to shorten it so there's no slack and it will fit inside the connector perfectly. battery is charged and my props should come today, hopefully when i throw on a fresh set i'll have a good time :D

also having a long strip of velcro across the quad makes it so i can use any size battery without having to line up the places with velcro perfectly :D

btw my clover antenna has been making a rattling noise...is that normal? video transmission still works so dont want to mess with anything if its not broken.

cool thanks for the recommendation! i notice they are .5 inches smaller, so by less agressive does that mean it will be a slower flight? will it also be a smoother flight?

i see that the zmr250 can take up to 6 inch props, so bigger props = faster speed? will 5040 be significantly different from 5045 with just a 0.5 inch difference? does 0.5 inches make that much of a difference? (thats what she said!!)

Normal that it rattles? Yes and no. It broke loose because its cheap. I found that after the cap breaks loose and as I crashed more and smashed the mushroom cap to the ground it eventually bends the wires turns inside and reception gets poor. I did a few things first. I taped the bottom to keep it from rattling. It didn't work very long so I popped the cap off and bent the wires back. That workd for awhile until I broke some wires. soldered the wires a few times but eventually tried different antennas.

I've tried several cheap mushrooms before I tried these and they seem okay:

But the turns get all bent up so I had rebend and solder them when they broke.

I also have a set like these: https://www.amazon.com/Crazepony-Aomway-Antenna-Clover-Multicopter/dp/B01DBBY456/ref=pd_sim_21_10?ie=UTF8&dpID=41UadunonML&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=VZHCVDVFK1RM9SD9WV6N
The nice thing about them is the turns are molded in place so I haven't had any problems after crashes. So far these are my favorite.

I just ordered these to try: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0194I0576/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?
ie=UTF8&psc=1 because the reviews seem pretty good.

In my research so far it sounds like the Cellular wireless skew-planers are the best or something from IB crazy also has a good reputation, but you pay for it.

right on thanks

one thing i like about these days is that people are so absorbed in their computers and Internets that the parks stay relatively nice and open for quad pilots :D

hoping my props come soon!!! where is that ups truck??? im gonna tear it up today and show the sky who's boss!!!!

and if today goes good ill order my runcam and then go to the other park where they have giant standing lights for the soccer fields, and do slaloms between them xD that would be an video xD i almost hit one of those light posts the other day, IGND TGEAR GONNA TEAR IT UOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wouldn't be surprised if those 100$ antennas provided no noticeable difference. every hobby has diminishing returns at some point or another, where companies charge insanely high prices and use marketing tactics because they know they can get people to buy it and the people who spend the money will fight to the death defending their purchase even if they know deep down it was a waste (think apple fans).

Just got me a big ol bag of dal props, going out for hopefully my best flight yet. At a red light now so thought I'd update y'all

just came back from a virtually flawless flight :D my first flight that was long and lasted an entire lipo pack, and ended right side up :D

i had the voltage alarm set to 3.3 this time, and it got me home with 3.48ish volts per cell, but i noticed at the end when it started beeping the quad started to drop and didnt have any life left so i just let it fall (LAND) to the ground right side up. but otherwise it was a perfect flight, didn't break a single thing, didn't even scratch a prop :D (i like these new dal props :D)

was very smooth and nice flight, i was nervous cus people were walking nearby, but i kept it cool and kept it low and slow and had a nice flight, i was literally going like 5 miles per hour lol

since this park is 5 minutes from my place, im charging up and heading out to do another pack :D

just flew another pack, though this time i landed on my back cus i panicked when it was time to land..but not even a scratch on the dal props :D charging up to go again :D

this next flight im only going to practice taking off and landing, cus im pretty good at flying from my simulator, but the landing is the hardest part for me, and also very important to learn right and i start panicking when the voltage alarm goes off lol so gotta get comfortable landing.

almost lost control a few times when the wind blew hard, it got scary, but i was born to be a drone pilot :D

it was fun i was flying and doing like little rescue missions in my head "the commander in the drone is scouting the area for survivors!!"

Sounds like you had a great time. One thing about landing. when you find the right amount of throttle on approach, don't change it. if you think you're coming in a little fast, give it lots of throttle and get up in the air and try again. I had the habit of thinking I was coming in a little hot so I'd give it a shot and it would start that yoyo affect until it slammed into the ground.

thanks, looks like im gonna be grounded for a week or so though cus back when i broke my motor tilts i lost a few of those screws, so i used some screws from an old computer case that fit, but they just aren't holding cus they are phillips and keep coming off, so ordered a new falcon screw set since i cant seem to find screws like this anywhere else. (figure i'll be in this hobby for the long haul so wouldn't hurt to have some spare screws)

supposedly they are m3 0.5 x 6mm, but i just got some m3 0.5 6mm screws and they arent fitting. i THINK what i need is m2 5mm, cus supposedly the falcon had a design change and some of them have m3 6mm screws but apparently mine are m2 5mm.

also hex drivers are weird, just went and got a screw set from walmart which has m3 hex bit, but it doesnt fit the m3 screws i bought from home depot :/ should i just get a set of allen keys and use them for these screws?
