Flight Controller and receiver issues

Hey all! I'm relatively new to the Quadcopter realm and I recently started a build with my University's robotics club. We are having some serious issues (Might be because none of us have any experience lol). Our flight controller is a PixRacer and we have a Futaba receiver and we cannot figure out how to get they to connect. First of all, our FC has a pwm cable that is super jenky looking. It only has 5 wires coming out of one end and each one is a single connector. We cannot for the life of us figure out how to connect the flight controller to the receiver. We know the receiver is functional, it is already bound to a controller, and we know it is outputting a signal. When we open up Qgroundcontrol on the computer and connect the flight controller via USB, we cannot calibrate the radio. It doesn't pick up anything. Any ideas?
Any input at all would be greatly appreciated

I have included some pictures for you to visualize what I am saying
