First Quadcopter Flight - Big Fail

Hi,
I got my first Quadcopter a week ago, a Hubsan X4 mini quadcopter

I really thought i was ready for the outdoors, took to the biggest field i could find and took it for a spin at about head height first - all good

Then this happens:
(lets see how high this thing can go)

Took it up so high could barely see it, but the problem was it drifted so far out and cleared all fields :(

Tried to bring it back to me - though i no longer was sure what direction the quadcopter was facing

Ended up bringing it down as slow as i could but no idea exactly where it landed.

So:
Quadcopter lost :(
32gb sd card lost :(
Useless reciever

----------

Gutted but lesson learnt here, will probably buy another though i'd probably be better with a bigger one.

Anyone else done this?
Cant imagine how it would feel losing an expensive one.

I lost my first micro the same way. Took it high up and the wind took it away. It was also the type that didn't shut off the motors when the TX signal was lost, so who knows where it ended up after the battery gave out.

Sadly, this is a common story. Most of us did it when we started learning. Don't let it stop you, and like Jackson said, check over grass and in close to see if it has a motor shutoff fail-safe when the signal is lost.

I crashed a contixo foldable drone the exact same way. It crashed somewhere in a cemetery near the RC field in flushing-corona park in Queens, NY...never to be found again..although, on dark, fog-filled nights..if you listen..you can almost hear the whirr of its motors..waiting for a chance to rise from the grave and fly again..

Yes, the same thing happened to me, my first quadcopter, flew it high then didn't know which way it was facing, so i didn't know if it was getting closer or farther away, finally, when it lost signal, it feel slowly to the ground, but i never found it...
