First Quad Syma X12

Hey guy's my name is Ryan, i own a gym and when it gets quiet i wanted something to do, so i decided to get a quad, i had no idea what to get but i decided the smaller the better to start with and one that could get crashed a fair bit without worrying so much about cost. First of i would like to say, DAMN i find it hard to fly, i thought growing up in the age of gaming i would be fine with it, i have changed the remote so left stick is your accelerate pitch and yaw, right stick is forward backwards, left and right.

I seem to rarely ever use pitch and yaw being a complete noob i don't completely understand the benefit of it, i am assuming to circle around things but atm i have some rings hanging from the ceiling and i struggle to get my quad through them, but its great fun

Also if someone can explain trim, is it something u shud do every time you start a flight? and is it just to be able to make it more stable? hover better?

hi mate, they're hard aren't they ! Even once you've got past the initial bunny hopping and got your throttle under control, as soon as you start turning the quad round it's very easy to get disoriented. Mind you, if you're already flying through hoops then you're doing pretty well.

Here's a practice list I made for myself when I first started (and no, I wouldn't call myself a good pilot by any means and certainly still can't do some of these...):

1) Facing away, simple hover holding in place, low altitude, slightly higher (1m), land again. Check trims. Can kill throttle about 1” above ground. Anything goes wrong, kill throttle. Do for a whole battery pack !
2) Choose several targets, facing away, fly to each target, land, take off again, rhs stick only
3) Facing away, hover, slow square, then slow circle clkws and then aclkwse using just rhs stick
4) Hover drone and rotate it to 10oclock posn, hover, 2oclock, 9oclock, 3oclock, keeping in place. Nudge fwds and bkwds (and roll) for feel
5) Nose-in hovering, keeping in place, nudge. – whole battery pack !
6) 7 oclock and 5 oclock in-place hovering, nudge.
7) Rotate 360 deg in-place hovering
8) Nose-in target hopping
9) Whilst hovering, switch between nose-n and nose-out, staying in place, sideways, whole pack.
10) Yaw to face, then slow circle clkws and then aclkwise with rhs stick – controls reversed
11) Facing away, figure of 8 with rhs stick, clckwise and aclkwise
12) Yaw to face, fig of 8 again, clckwise and aclkwise
13) Turning while flying forward using elevator and yaw only, clkwse circle and aclkwise circle. Nose leading
14) Banked turns, elevator + yaw + pitch, clkwse circle and aclkwise circle. Nose leading
15) Elev and yaw large fig8, clckwsw and aclkws, nose leading. Try sideways fig8 first, start in middle at 90deg, and nose-out for each edge. Then can try nose-on each edge, front-back fig8
16) Banked turn fig8, clkws and aclkws, nose leading

100) flips, rolls, loops, fpv

Trim is easy, it's just making sure that your control sticks on the transmitter are sending zeros when they're centred. If you find that without giving any input, the quad is either drifting forward/backward, left/right, or rotating then you'll need to adjust the trim on your transmitter till it stops doing it and stays still.

Can't quite tell how you have set your transmitter. Best if you use Mode 2. NOTE: Syma seems to be confused as to what Mode 2 is.

Today trying to fly it i was able to get more understanding of how to do it, i can fly through a ring although very hard with throttle/pitch forward control and have started doing circles around objects. I am excited to get another quad already haha,, i have just bought a chinook to have a play with aswell

I love the x5c-1. It handles great and is a real joy to fly. I've crashed only a few time and while nothing to major, it does pretty darn great. Also there's tons of replacement parts. You can even buy a new quad without the remote for 25 on gearbest.com I believe.

are the motors rotating the right way ? I'm not familiar with your quad, but seems most set-ups the front-left motor is clockwise, front-right anticlockwise, back right clockwise and back-left anti-clockwise

Have you got the right props on the right motors, there are clockwise and anti-clockwise shaped props
