First Build, weird DC motor sound

Hello,

Last week I finished up my first build and, unwisely, without previous experience, decided to fly it for the first time, so it ended up crashing.

After picking it up, one of the DC motors started to emit a weird noise, here is a short half-minute video demonstrating it:

I honestly do not remember if that specific motor was emitting that sound before the crash, but is making me worry.

Should I buy a new DC motor? Or is maybe there a solution to fix this? Thanks in advance for your answer.

Alex.

That sure sounds like something is grinding. Far from an expert here, but the two things that come to mind are the motor attachment screws may be a touch too long or the stator is touching the bell. Try backing the screws off some and see if things improve. If so, buy some shorter screws. Something to look at anyway, before smarter folks come in with answers.

You may be able to buy a new bell for the motor, but a lot of what I've read says that it's easier to just replace the motor, depending on motor/bell replacement cost of course.

When you spin it by hand does it feel gritty or different from the others? You got an outdoor hose with a sprayer? Cover the the main body with some plastic, then fire it up and blast the offending motor a few times (while it's running) from the top. Spin it by hand again and see if it feels better, you can repeat the procedure again. Let them dry out, a couple drops of a light oil for the bearings is also advisable after a flush. I've flushed out my inexpensive motors numerous times after dirt/mud encounters. I'm also a proponent of periodically oiling the bearings, especially with cheap motors.
