Has anyone had any experience with this drone?

I've been back and forth over what type of drone I'd like to get, thinking that the Babyhawk would be the one, but have been looking at my CX-30's with sadness because if I go up the next level, they are going to spend time collecting dust, a bit of a waste of the money I spent (and thinking on the typical newbie mistake comment I got from a local guy.)

Then I came across this little gem

What I like is that it comes true FPV (not the wifi), works with what I already have on hand which will give me 7 batteries, and 8 spare motors and I can get it with a FrSky compatible receiver, so that saves me $35ish on a mod for my TX. Yes the motors don't last as long as brushless but I'd have 10 backups and more isn't that expensive, and I am not looking to get into racing, just to have fun buzzing around my large yard with maybe a course set up.

Haven't seen that one, Torc. But I think your CX-30 will still see some love.
Not an expert, but I would think for flying around the yard, brushless would be just fine for getting you started.
As we've discussed in other threads, some of this stuff is harder than it looks and it's great to have inexpensive ways to practice and help evaluate what you *really* want or need in the next one.

I've got his little brother, the qx90. They are very good quads set up to fly great! I believe you'll enjoy the qx95 immensely, I say go for it. Also if you get the RTF version it comes with the flysky Tx that you can bind to other quads. It's a great deal.

@Dugdog47 That would be a good thing for when I get the beast up and flight capable. Then all I'll need is the FC.

@Spork This definitely won't be the last drone that will grace my hanger, just the one with the best deal with what I currently have. I'm addicted so like potato chips, you can't have just one. :)

I would like to see if a smaller frame would work with the With 2012 - 1000kv motors w/esc

I don't know what you mean by smaller, I used those motors (I'm assuming you mean 2212) with my tricopter, they work good with 10 inch props (I used 1045). You can go to smaller props but the grams of thrust will suffer. An 8 inch prop will generate ~30% less thrust.

Please keep in mind that, up until about 3 months ago, I had next to no knowledge of the world of quads or RC in general, so my questions can be seen as coming from the inquisitive nature of an unenlightened newbie.

The question stemmed from the wondering if the current motors could go onto a smaller airframe. While looking into videos about the QX95 I saw a few conversions to Brushless motors and thought it was kind of an overkill when you add the weight of the motors and escs to a tiny frame and I think I know the answer. Weight to thrust ratios and prop sizes affect the minimum size the airframe can be.

I just sold the F450 frame and have been looking into things in want and need and for under $40 I went from an unflyable quad to what will be a flight-capable mini quad with the motors from my CX-30 that will bind to my Qx7 and a ton of extra props.

Below are the main parts I am going to be buying, and likely payday I will add the motors.

Kingkong Smart100 100mm Carbon Fiber DIY Frame Kit
AIOF3PRO_Brushed FLight-control Board Built-in OSD Receiver
4X Racerstar 615 6x15mm 59000RPM Coreless Motor
