Drone shooting

I think allowing anyone to shoot at a drone is a ridiculous and dangerous idea. I don’t know what the solution should be, but I can see both sides of this argument. As a newcomer to the hobby, I would not want my drone shot down. Who is responsible for the damage to the drone or anything/anyone it hits on the way down?

HOWEVER, I live in an area where the houses are close together, and I would not someone flying over my property (without asking first). I don’t know if they have a camera on there or how good of a pilot that are. On my property I have an expected right of privacy, and I don’t want someone invading it because they have a new toy. If there is an equipment failure or it crashes for whatever reason it could damage my car hit the dog or a kid.

I practice/test in my back yard, I never go higher than my house or over the fence line. There are places I can go when I want to get some real airtime. I have a few friends with a lot of property, there are a few abandon buildings nearby with big empty parking lots, and our local park lets people fly as long as we stay away from everyone and don’t cause issues. I know not everyone that wants to fly has these options, so what do you do then?

Jackson, thanks for posting this. It brings up some interesting conversation.

Common sense and common smarts evades some people some time.
In my younger days I used to ride dirt bikes. Where I lived at the time, real estate was at a premium.

The state set aside a portion of a state park for dirt bikes and other off road vehicles. I also road my International Scout there. It was not huge but nice.

There was but one restriction. One! Do not ride in the creek.

Guess what? yepper! The nimrods did it.

Guess what? The state closed it down!!

Idiots!

I guess what passes for logic in Oklahoma it to authorize homeowners to discharge firearms into the air. Where's the bill to allow citizens to shoot cell phones out of people's hands? After all, those phones have a camera and cameras invade our privacy.

Some told me that our personal property air space ends at 80 feet. Above that you can have no expectation of privacy.

If my old memory serves me.
The privacy laws state that anything garnished from public property is legal.
So if you film someone from the street and they are on the front porch. You are within your rights.

As to Real Property (as opposed to personal ), homeowners only have rights to the airspace above their home that they could reasonably use. Zoning and other restrictions apply.

So ....at 80 feet, I am legal taking videos of......anything in open view.

Patriot missiles notwithstanding

Im not sure i would care if my neighbors flew their drones around my neighborhood and went over my house. I mean even if they did crash land on my property the chances of anything seriously dangerous occurring is probably less likely than getting bit by a Cobra and struck by lightning at same time but i guess thats just me. Every1 is different no doubt. I dont expect the world to be as easy going but it sure seems lame to me when people get territorial over their airspace all the sudden when planes, helicopters and whatever else have been flying over ur houses since forever ago. Did you worry about planes falling on ur home? No and u know why? Cuz probability is low but i still have multiple aircraft pass within 200-800ft over our roof almost daily. Out of the 200+ miles, 115+ flights i have on my Mavic Pro since i got it as my very first drone it has never crashed, fell from the sky etc etc . There no reason to think a civilian can not handle a drone when u trust them to drive multi ton vehicles around you all day long. Its all perspective. Personally i think people suck in general ;so things will grow in a negative direction as usual ;)
