if I would purchase a 5.8 tx, would I be able to use it with a apple or android device? Also if I would shut off the 2.4 wifi on a gopro could I use the 5.8 tx?
 
No, it uses a different encryption type, the media is the same buy the information that is being transmitted is different. You would need a 5.8gHz video receiver.

Here is a whole budget FPV setup I'd suggest
Camera/32ch 5.8gHz transmitter <-- Will work with about any 5.8gHz receiver
5ch 5.8gHz video receiver <-- Will not work with all transmitters, on those on the same band (group of 8 channels)
DIY Quantum goggles version 2 <-- Cheap goggles, if you have a bigger budget I can give you a better suggestion
 
Thanks, this is my next purchase, got the copter and transmitter. Once I get it flying I will add video. It has an existing camera but my not be work keeping. Does the video receiver or camera include a memory port to record the flight?

Your post is slightly confusing. If you asking if you can use the GoPro as an FPV camera the answer is yes.
 
I like taking pics and Vid. Being a novice, It seems to me the only way to do it is with a app and a apple or android divice. I have a cheapo camera I bought off eBay just to see how it works. I think it is a eflight product. It has a internal 5,8 g TX Built in. It looks like a go pro but the features and quality isn't close. It's only 2mp. But It works great and does what I wanted it to do just as a test. Now and it was super easy to use its app on my Apple iPad and iPhone. I want to get sonething better quality and take some real pics. Again a hobby and I'm a novice. I really don't have a need for a go pro. Except for areal pics. So I don't want to dump a lot of money in a camera used for one thing. (At this point). Anything out there that does the same thing my cheap Camera does but better quality? And can take pics on Apple android products? Also on a totally different subject. Is it possible that blade gaurds change the dynamics of phantoms flight. Seems when I put them on, mine seems to wander a bit in gps mode. Not a lot but noticeable. I thought maybe the guards are causing a bit of neg turbulence.

If you want a cheap camera to record with take a look into the Runcam. I have suggested it many times in the short time that it has been out, as I believe it gives you the best bang for your buck. Take a look at some of the videos done with it, they are great quality, especially for a price like that.
