cheapest good way to setup x5c-1 with fpv

hey i am a complete noob here i just got a x5c-1 cus i heard its one of the best bang for buck to start off with and can be upgraded down the road, thinking later i will do the antenna upgrade,...but i really want to get into fpv because ive been a huge flight sim fan all my life and i do great in fpv and i also have a quadcopter simulator on my computer and in fpv mode i just tear through the sky like a jet!

i don't have much knowledge about how fpv works, what is the cheapest+best way to get it on my x5c? I'm thinking if i maybe get a small camera and mount it under the body with 2 thick rubber bands, then how do i get a screen and connect it to that camera? also i hear the x5c is awesome because you can use 5.8ghz fpv connection, where as even the more expensive ones use wifi which causes lot of image stuttering.

cool thanks a lot for your help GJH. Btw i was also in the air force! (3a0x1!) i guess thats why ive always been into air stuff, my best friend is a pet budgie, i play a lot of flight sim games, and i talk so much about aviation that people irl don't want to spend much time with me lol, not sure why it took me so long to get into the drone game :S i think because in 2006 when i was in highschool i tried a foam rc air plane and it was a pretty bad experience but looks like i will really enjoy drones, i like the video features of drones too!

from everything i have read, i think its best that i just learn on my x5c-1 and if i get enthused enough to justify the cost, i will get the DJI Phantom 3, since that has fpv, high quality camera, and pretty much everything i want.

also i saw some people say that you can get an actioncam like the mobius and strap it to the x5c to make like a poor man's phantom 1, and even though it's supposed to be one of the best cheap setups in comparison - i figure if im going to spend more on the camera than the drone, i rather pocket that money towards my phantom 3 :D so im thinking i will just keep learning on the x5c and then when i get enthused enough, ill get a phantom 3 and enjoy the fpv, nice camera, and 25 mins flight time <3

i go through phases, buying car stuff, computer stuff, audiophile stuff, stuff for my bird, fashion clothes, watches, and right now im in quadcopter mode lol though im kinda glad i finished setting up my car because that was super expensive and im glad it freed up money to get myself into lots of other hobbies instead

To get an introduction into fpv ,the Syma FPV kit for $51.00 including monitor isnt really all that bad....you are pushing the limits of flight with the kit as its a bit heavy but many fly with that kit on the x5c successfully and it is a plug and play kit for x5c camera boards....There are ways to lower the weight.

With a slight mod you can actually record the flight video as well.

Just an option for you.

And by the way, ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i saw a video by quadcopter 101, seems like a good idea for me!! 50 bucks for the x5c + 50 bucks for the fvp, definitely a 100$ poor man's phantom lol! And its pretty good fvp cus its 5.8ghz, instead of the laggy wifi most of the drones in that price range have.

now that you mention it i think i will give it a try :) he says that he found the screen nicer than most fvp screens he has tried! Seems to be a very simple setup, the screen mounts on to the controller and it points the camera more up rather than down, and how the camera plugs into the quadcopter so u can record with the controller and the video quality doesn't seem too bad! all at 5.8ghz! definitely the best poor man's phantom 1 then lol

quadcopter 101 definitely seems happy with it! his tone of voice too lol

You wont be able to record without a slight mod...The TX has no video record function.
..its more of a just see on the screen as you fly but, you can record if you want.

The camera has a black and a yellow wire coming out of it...If you short the yellow and black wires for 3 seconds the camera will actually record the flight video and not just monitor it...Short the wires again for 1 second and video stops recording.

What most are doing is installing a micro momentary switch to the quad and using it to start/stop recording....You can upgrade the antennas on both the camera and monitor if you wanted.

Be sure to use a quality SD card for better quality recording...the one it comes with isnt the best.

I forgot to mention alot are buying the 808#16 D lens ($11.00) and attaching it to the camera for a much better FOV (field of view)..I beleive its 120 degree...Not a simple task but, a worthy one.

ohh i see, thanks for the explanation! idk if i can do all that, even though it may not be a big deal to you guys, for now i just wanna keep learning with the x5c and when i feel ive gotten good enough flying skill and have "earned it", i'll go for the p3, cus i like how it has all the features i want without having to do any additional modifications.

Its not all that bad....youll have to learn to fix/mod your quad rather its a hobby grade or a toy grade...Soldering skills more so for toy quads and alot of programming skills and soldering skills for the hobby grades.

If you need any help with the quad or fpv set up just ask.. a great bunch of guys on here to help at any level.

cool thanks :D

btw have u guys seen this video? it literally made laugh like crazy, there's something really cool about seeing the world through the lens of a drone wayyy up in the sky in very beautiful areas, then crashing into something and tumbling down to the ground lol

looking forward to some good crashes with my x5c once im done babying it

watching this video just really makes me want to get the phantom more because i wanna be able to fly longer and get that epic picture quality and just go all around the town like that, a man and his drone!

i really wanna fly over water and get some epic footage, but something tells me that doesn't always end well lol

some of these locations are so gorgeous, and its funny to see wild life attack the drones lol

Get the syma first to learn on...its not so bad to replace a $3.00 part compared to a $30.00 part when you crash just right to break something.

I have an X5C-1 coming myself...Watch for a thread on it ..I plan to do alot of mods to it as well as maybe that syma fpv kit.

Off to work i go for now...sigh.

right on, i'll keep an eye out for your thread! there's something really cool about seeing a drone fly over gorgeous scenery, then hit somethign and tumble down and then u see bubbles underwater lol, though i guess its not funny when it's your drone!

thanks for your help, have a good one!

Another thing i am excited to try, is flying with no camera, because i saw in quadcopter 101's video that the x5c-1 is actually very agile and fast with the camera off, and i saw some people say that the phantom is more of a stable flyer for video, but the x5c-1 is a super fun quad to fly and enjoy! kinda like calling the phantom a luxury car with all the nice features where as the x5c-1 is more of a sports car.

Hahaha, so you were a kind of a jack of all trades? I hear that you move around a lot with that AFSC. In the long run you are probably better with a Phantom after you learn to fly and keep orientation as the video quality is amazing, and it is easy to fly, so more air time.

yeah pretty much!

btw i did not know sd card mattered, i googled "high performance sd card" and this one seems pretty popular, should this be good?

Will your camera support 32gb card?
mine came with a 2gb micro sd card but i asked on amazon and they said it should take any micro sd card.

was thinking of getting a 808 number 16 keychain camera which according to banggood says it has a tf card, so not sure if that will take it :S

not too worried about fpv atm, but i hear this camera is comparable to the older go pro camers and is perfect for the x5c cus its not too heavy and very identical to the stock camera. ya can just rubber band it on!
