Bugs 3 Batteries and Chargers

Hiya Guys,

I am brand new here and even worse a rookie with the Bugs 3..... I have just taken delivery of mine today. I am wanting more batteries and have already seen that people do not rate the charger that comes with the Bugs 3. So a very simple question....

What charger and battery combinations (Aftermarket) will be suitable, maybe even giving me longer flight times, plus of course quicker charging?

I am not competent at soldering and do not want to be messing about like that...any links to suitable battery/charger combinations would be gladly received.

Kind Regards
Cris (UK)

Excuse my ignorance as a rookie again, but following on from the recommendation of the
SKYRC iMAX B6AC V2 AC/DC Dual Power Professional LiPo Battery Balance Charger/Discharger Which I now intend to buy thank you.

Would it charge both the following batteries?

Standard MJX-Bugs-3-RC-Quad 4V-2S-25C-1800mAh-LiPo-Battery

MJX-Bugs-3-RC-Quad 4V-25C-2300mAh-Battery (Not listed as a LIPO??)

Both off Banggood web site

or what other batteries would you recommend and why please? I am, like most, looking to get maximum flight times without blowing the quad or its motors.

Thanks in advance.

Yes it will. But those batteries and the stock Bugs 3 battery have an XT30 connector. The wires included with the SKYRC IMAX BAC charger only come with XT60 connector. So you will need an adapter to convert the Xt30 to Xt60

I recommend buying lipo's from local retailers like Hobby King rather than ordering from China. There is a possibility the lipo's could be stopped at customs and sent back.
If you better battery performance and reliabilty then it's wise to buy from popular known brands like TATTU, CHNL, TURNIGY. The batteries sold on banggood may or may not be as good. It's a gamble.

The Bugs 3 requires 2S (2 cell) 7.4v Lipo with a 'c' rating of 20C or higher (a higher c rating is better because the batteries will sag less). The original battery size is 1800mah. 2300mah will be slightly heavier. 2500mah would be at as big you would want to go. Any bigger and it might be too heavy and will negatively effect the flight characteristics.

Also 2S lipo's with XT30 connectors are harder to find. Most will probably come with a XT60 connectors. So to use those lipo's with the Bugs 3 you also need to use an XT30 to Xt60 adapter.

Some people have reportedly used 3S (11.1v) Lipo's with the Bugs 3 without issues for faster performance. But do this at your own risk as it you could fry an ESC. If that happens then the drone will drop out of the sky.

....

Skip the individual adapters and get yourself one of these. It plugs right into the iMax and lets you charge more than one battery at a time. The iMax will charge just about anything, but different quads have different connectors. Charging boards are the way to go. You only need the one charger (the iMax B6AC) but you'll need a different board for each type of battery connector you want to use.

Finally tried my Turnigy Accucell 6 today. Worked well having watched a YouTube video by RCModelReviews on YouTube. Even got to practice soldering on the XT60 to XT30 adaptor.

@Jackson I have a couple of those, all I need to do is add an XT30
Here comes the question please. Do I work out the mAh and voltage rate for 1 battery and use that for the 2?

Thanks
Roger

First off NiMHs don't work well on TXs that don't have a built in voltage regulator, so keep that mind (the Bugs do as does my FS-i6). There is really nothing to work out voltage wise, you just choose the amps (I think I use .6A for 4 batteries in series). Delta Peak just keep on charging till the batteries are full, at that point there will be a slight drop off that the charger detects and shuts off. The first few times you can check your batts for heat, medium warm is not a problem. Note the lower NiMH voltage means they don't last as long as alkalines.
