Best IMUs and ESCs for beginner?

Hi all, first time poster here.

I am beginning mechatronics studies, but have never built a quadcopter before, so I am new to all of this. I am attempting to make a quadcopter from scratch, using an Arduino Uno as the brain. I am wondering what the "best" IMU and motor controllers would be for someone like me? By best I mean something relatively straightforward to interface with, and cheap (<40$ each?).

I have searched a lot on this topic, but most things are either outdated, or people suggested very expensive items. Thanks for any help.

Best,
Aristos

Thank you! I read about this vs MPU6050, this looks better because I can do SPI.

Maybe this is stupid, but how do I connect to it without a breakout board..?

edit: I'm assuming the answer will be to make my own, hoping for a better way

You're correct, the 12C bus in the MPU 6050 is a little to slow to handle anything much over 2K looptime and is much more susceptible to noise. MPU600 is the industry standard for a dependable flight controller until you get into the F7 boards which I believe use an 90268 IMU
