5g/802.11ac I am Confused

So I am waiting for my new JJRC X-12 quad to arrive in a few days BUT in researching this new bird I found a users manual that stated it will ONLY WORK with a 5g phone (or tablet?). Well I have an Lg smart phone that's a couple of years old. Question: Will it work with the app given that it is not designated as 5g? What does 5g mean? Fifth-gereration cellular wireless connection (I think). Must I purchase a very expensive new 5g phone in order to download and use the "Enjoy Fly" app? I asked a few local techs including Captain Drone (youtube guru whose reviews are very informative) and it is still unclear. I don't have the $700 to $1500 for a new 5g smart phone. It would be insane if the Drone manufacture , Jianjian, required this, yes? There is a magic number that plays into this question of 5g. It is 802.11ac. Wikipedia defines: IEEE 802.11ac is a wireless networking standard in the 802.11 set of protocols (which is part of the Wi-Fi networking family), providing high-throughput wireless local area networks (WLANs) on the 5 GHz band.
Captain Drone advises"Where do you live in the world that you would look for a 5G Phone for $1000. Please read my last comment. You seem to be rather lost in technology since you can buy phones that are compatible with 802.11ac for very little money or no money at all." I hope he is right.
Can any member shed some light on the confusion. I'd hate to send back my new drone because it needs a phone I can't afford. Thanks guys and gals.

I'd be willing to bet they mean 5GHz wifi not 5G cellular. 5GHz wifi might not be an option on an older phone but anything in the last few years is likely to have it, in general the higher frequency gets less distance but also less noise. Due to high density of 2.4GHz there is a lot of overlap/interference from neighbors in densely populated areas and when doing mesh networks it is better to have 5.8GHz for the edge nodes and 2.4GHz for the main access point they all go through (again less overlap in the 5.8GHz band).

5G cellular still has extremely limited adoption/coverage so wouldn't make much sense to be the primary or only way to communicate with the quad (also always relatively high latency going over cell network vs direct point to point)

I have a multimeter. I guess I paid too much. It was $40. The question regarding "5G" has been adequately answered. I am now wondering where to get an actual user's manual. Online search "jjrc X-12 user's guide (manual)" produced no results. I have emailed Geekbuyers to see if they can supply one or at least a source. Thank you wafflejock and Jackson.
 
Thanks, Jackson. I looked into that and alas, it's only a break down of parts. I bought this X-12 partly because I liked the Captain Drone youtube review. Because he has far more experience than novice flyers, he is able to whiz through the set up and get in the air. Unfortunately for us newbies he omits some important details because, to hime, they are obvious.
My drone arrived with a 7-page "Quick Start Guide" to explain the set up and the operation functions. Many things are not covered. I looked very long and hard to find a link to online USER'S MANUAL for the X-12 drone. JJRC posts a list of drones with manuals (https://www.jjrc.com/media/manual.html). After downloading each one I did not find any X-12 manual. Why is the Jian Jian company not providing consumers a complete, DETAILED user's manual? To cut costs? DJI and Yuneec have very good user manuals for their drones. Jian Jian needs to employ a highly educated Chinese/English translator (I know they exist having myself lived in mainland China) to produce complete, detailed, user manuals for their drones. Translation to English requires attention to syntax that is often omitted in poorly translated guides ("After power on the aircraft,ensure that the level of the aircraft is positioned more than 30 seconds to make the aircraft complete self-inspection,when indicator convert flashing blue to flashing green or always green,which means pairing has been successful". Huh?
I need more information about battery charging and care, about the camera--the specs, the micro sd card, will 128 GB work? How do insert the card into drone? Which side up or down? How to effectively pair and calibrate gyros and compass. The information on the Start Guide is sorely inadequate. There is no "Trouble Shooting" information about drone problems and problems with the enjoy_fly app. Very difficult to make this work with controller. I should have bought the Holy Stone or the Zeno. Shouda, coulda, woulda. Anyway thanks for reading my rant.
 
Thanks. The card I inserted was a 64GB. I will try swapping it for 32GB. I looked for Eachine EX4 manual to no avail. There is a good reason why the big name drone manufacturers dominate the market. I still have not received a cost estimate on repairing my damaged Yuneec H. Maybe they're reluctant to give me the bad news? As a replacement I was looking at an UPAIR One. From the youtube reviews it looks pretty good. I like that it comes with it's own dedicated viewscreen attached to the controller/transmitter. If my Typhoon H is beyond repair, my first choice is to replace it would be a refurbished q500. Today I was going to test fly my X-12 but it's freezing rain here on Long Island so I cancelled. East coast winters are not the best for drone flying.

Looking forward to your initial report. I have an X11 which is a bit heavier. It is very stable and highly controllable, but I'm a little disappointed with the camera quality. As a result, I suspend (quite awkwardly) a 4K 'CheapPro' Action Cam, underneath, which gives very good results with its EIT and gyro stabalisation.
