Hi all,
I am wanting to get into flying some hobby grade quadcopters. I have flown the proto x for a while but the motors keep losing their connections some how, so I decided to put some money into a nice one that will be bigger and hopefully more fun. I have about $300 to spend, (can be more), I also want to learn soldering. I am thinking of picking up a Weller soldering station. I saw some guides on YouTube and I was wondering what you guys would suggest. I do want FPV, I am think that would be very cool.

If you have a budget like that get a 3 in 1 & Soldering Iron Station with a Hot Air rework gun

Oh wow. Thanks for that suggestion, It is exactly what I'll be doing. Have you seen Flight club's fpv build? He builds a fpv that doesn't have the goggles, just a small lcd screen. I liked it because right now it seems a little pricey for a nice pair of goggles. As far as the actual quad goes, would you have any suggestions? I liked the video(s) that someone posted, had about 6 parts I think and it was an older gentleman building it. However I had a bit of trouble matching the parts, and I'm a really big noob.

I couldn't find one with a vacuum pickup, I assume that means like a air filter?

Vacuum pumps make the guns run a bit higher, not for filtering air as much as it is desoldering, but that one is a great setup. A lot more bang for your buck vs a pen. Get either a list of what you want from a quad, or a part list to the best of your ability and we can help.

This is the best in class, in vids (plenty out there) the construction and components are top notch with near perfect temperature control (true tip feedback).

I agree that Hakko is by far one of the best brands, depends what type of quality you want for your money verses functionality for your money. If you get a real Hakko you have a good iron, and the older Weller stuff is also great.

I have a Weller gas soldering iron its quite old now about 12 year's old now and its great.
I know it doesn't have the fine tuning temp settings like some dedicated soldering iron but it gets the job done.
I like how you can change the tip to a blow torch to do heat shrink.
Used it to do do this SK450 quad build
Good luck with it all

Hahaha, you might want to invest in an electric iron for really small wires or PCB.

You might want to look at this for your FPV gear, it is a bit more updated and has very similar parts for cheaper.
DON'T get the Quantum V1 goggles, the Quantum V2 is a LOT better and for about the same price. Really nice radio controller, as he mentioned you don't need one that nice. Be sure to buy plenty of props adn some arms. Good luck! hahaha

Boscam FPV 5.8G 8CH 200mW AV Wireless Receiver RC805
instead of the
Docooler 5.8G Wireless FPV 8CH AV Receiver RC305 for RC Plane or Remote Control

I assume i can use either one?
