Premade vs DIY starter questions

Hi all,

I have been looking for a hobby for a while where I can build something and play with it and I think quade/RCs are where I want be. My intent is make a larger drone used for general flying, photo/video/ and maybe later, have it auto-follow me. I am having toruble getting started and the previous places I have asked have referred me to sites that while are great resources of information...they tend to be biased in favor of microquads and racing drones which I am not interested in.

I am wondering if maybe I should first go out and buy a completed drone for around $100 bucks. Fly it, get used to it and such and then afterwards make my own quad...or if I can just start from scratch now.

If you recommend I buy a completed one, what would you recommend for around 100 give or take? If you think I can build my own now, what is a decent sized frame and FC (more important)?

Just my experience.......

You can get a fairly decent "toy" quad from $50 to $100 if your looking for something to fly outside. If you want to practice inside you can get some nifty ones for less then $20. If you get a lot of rainy weather, I would suggest the indoor quads.(I have a Bwhoops B03 and an Eachine E 010).

I like DIY but for starts I bought an S500 kit that had everything.....as far as flying goes. I had to get a transmitter, receiver, gimbal and camera and some other bits and bobs(just because I wanted to add some stuff). My problem is that it is a continous work in progress. But first flight with camera I had right at $250 invested. If your interested in my S500 project, do a site search for "Frankendrone"..............

Yes, get this one to learn the ropes. It's quite docile in it's lowest setting and quite sporty in high.

I spent a few bucks more for the Wifi version because I do FPV stuff, plus it was located in the states so I get it a lot sooner. Also bought the battery, I can wait.
