Syma X8C battery won't charge

On my second flight with the Syma X8C I managed to get it stuck 50 feet up a tree. The next day I was able to get it down using the slingshot, fishing line & weight trick. Now it looks like the battery that was in the quad overnight won't take a charge. It works fine with the spare batteries, & the spares charge ok.

My question is does running these Li-po's all the way down kill them?

Yes. In normal flight the quad will drop from the sky at some point. When you pull the battery to recharge it will still be >3.6V or so. But note even when the motors won't spin anymore the lights are still flashing, if the battery is left in, slowly but surely it will completely drain it. The Syma charger probably has a safety that won't turn on the charger below a certain voltage. If you don't have a multimeter get one and double check the voltage.

Thanks... I figured the flashing lights would have drained it. Being rained on all night I'm amazed the quad still worked.

I take no responsibility for this advice, but I have brought lipos back from the dead when they are as low as 1 volt. Set your battery charger to NiMh charge, and charge it for 20-30 seconds, then try to charge on normal lipo setting. If you get an unable to charge warning, keep repeating until it will accept a charge. Just make sure you do this outside for obvious reasons. If you do manage to charge it, check the voltage and individual cell voltage as it may be permanently damaged. My rule of thumb is if a lipo is showing irregular or unbalanced cells, I chuck it as it could be volatile

Been there. More than once. Lost a few Symas in trees, including one that was up there for about three weeks. Rain, cold weather, wind.

Finally got it down and it worked like a charm although the battery was toast.

Thanks for the feedback. Now that I've got the bug I see I'll have to learn something about the electronics & batteries that go into them, as well as how to fly them properly.
