Help with mode 1 and mode 2

Altsickeness

Quad Addict
New guy mess.

Okay I started out with a Syma x5sw and the generic syma controller it came with. Since I've never flown anything before that, I started in the mode it worked in when I first took it out of the box. The screen icon tells me Im in mode 1, which is Left stick (up /down and right/ left turn) and Right stick (forward /back and roll right/left). So I practiced my butt off flying almost every day with the 9 batteries I purchased to go with it. The plan was to get an Eachine racer 250 and learn to fly on the Syma. So I got really good and comfortable with the controls on the Syma (mode 1) and purchased the Eachine 250. It had and option of ordering mode 1 or mode 2 on Eachine I6 controller so I naturally picked mode 1 because I thought I was flying in mode 1 according to the Syma controller.
The problem I have is that the mode 1 on the I6 is totally opposite of what I've been practicing all this time.
SO my new guy questions are as follows:
1) can I take this controller apart and switch it around to the way I've been flying?
2) What mode have I been in? Is the above description actually mode 2?
3) will I need to purchase a new controller (Left hand: up/down and right/left turn, Right hand: Forward/back and left/ right roll), and a new receiver?
4) can I purchase a new controller and bind it to the receiver already on the quad?

I'm beyond frustrated after all that practice in whatever mode I was in and now possibly have to start over with a much more expensive quad.

Note: I did try it and crashed after about 20 seconds and broke all the props. Everything seems backwards... GRrrrrr! I'm not sure if I'm prepared to switch over like that. It will probably be expensive and frustrating. I still have 4 more props that came with it. So maybe I can make it to 30 seconds this time.

Any advise or help would be very welcome (after you're done laughing at me :) )

You been stung by the the Syma moronism of calling Mode 2 mode 1.

It's interesting as one member, burky39, just tweaked a Syma manual. My tweak.

I ran into another issue. I got the switches changed over. The transmitter turns on just like in the video and at about 7:00 the guy looks to be holding down the "Ok" button and it goes into menu. When I do that nothing happens.

After looking at videos and searching around. I found directions on RC groups to unlock the menu on the Eachine I6. Apparently Eachine locks it at the factory???... So with power off, I push both bottom trim switches inward and turn power on. After that I could get into the menu and set the sticks mode to mode 2. Should be smooth flying from here.

Thinking all is good and feeling rather satisfied, I tried it out. Eachine's directions for motors unlock in mode 2 is: (left stick) throttle down and to the right and (right stick) center. When I do that nothing happens and I have an error on the transmitter.

Any advise at this point is desperately needed and welcome.

Thanks.

So you are saying you can't can't to any of the menu settings in the normal fashion?
Hi Jackson. No I got through the menu issue. At first it didn't work to hit the OK button. I found out how to unlock the menu buy holding bottom trim buttons inward and turning on the power. After that the menu works and I can go in and set it to mode 2. The problem now is that when I go to bind or unlock motors, nothing happens. The TX screen has an "error 1%" message.

Are you saving the setting correctly? It's weird but on mine (Turnigy i6) 'Cancel' = Save

When I go back into it and check the "sticks mode" it says it's in mode 2. Like the guy in the video, I set to mode 2 and hold the "ok" button and then click it again and it goes back to menu.

I was concerned that I messed something up inside the TX so I switched the switches back, went into menu and switched it back to mode 1. It binds and the motors unlock. I can fly it in mode 1. So I switched everything back to mode 2 again, but still have the same problem. the RX on the quad blinks the red light and then is turns solid red ( I assume this at means it binded) I then follow the motor unlock procedure from Eachine and nothing happens.

o I switched the switches back,
You mean gimbals?
It binds and the motors unlock
Actually it ARMS.

I would run thru the actual BIND procedure once more, can't hurt, but look at the pic first.

Go into Function > End points , should be all 100s. Go into Display and check all the channels for proper movement. May as well check Subtrim too (all centered).

Look at this pic, are you showing RX volts?

Yes. Shows full TX and RX battery.
Then below that it says:

Int.v 1:4.97v
Tx.V 1: 5.26v
Err 1:1%

End points all 100, channels all have movement and sub trim all centered.
Im not sure if it actually arms.

I watched a video on it showing:
plug in racer battery, (it plays a little song and the props wiggle.
Turn on Rx (warning: all switches up and throttle down) so I put left stick down, right stick up. (warning is gone and the above display appears. Then he shows unlocking the motors. Left stick down and to the right/ right stick down and then return.

At this point nothing happens/ no throttle.

Don't worry about the Err.

Well the only thing left that I can think of is to grab a copy of OpenPilot GCS and actually reset the arming procedure, maybe once you flipped the gimbals over it's not right. Remember to hit SAVE.

Okay, I'll give that a try. I knew Id eventually be into open pilot or Libra pilot. So I guess I'll be doing that sooner then later. I'm guessing the plug is the one that looks like an old cell phone plug on the racer controller? Or am I doing something with the receiver? These might be dumb questions, but I've never done this before. Thanks for your help and patience. :)

Okay jackson, openpilot.org. Says CC3D is not supported. I remember watching videos about libra pilot. Guy said one of the open pilot guys started it and it continues support of CC3D. What do you recommend i do? Keep in mind i really have little idea what im talking about because ive never done this stuff.

Of course it is. What was Painless using in his vid? :) Exactly what did it say? Did you grab this one?
(Previous) RELEASE – 15.02.02 – (2nd Hotfix update for v15.02 – 05/19/2015) – Revo, CC3D, Atom, CC and v9 GPS

That's the one I used. The reason I suggested OP was that your CC3D was probably programmed with it. I thought maybe you could simply set the arming option.

LibrePilot is fine, maybe even better. It's been a tweaked a bit more.

My excuse is I'm a noob trying to absorb a lot of info at once. While I admit to whining (just a little bit ;) ) and over thinking.. only because I don't know wth I'm doing. I did go back to the last version with CC3D. I probably will go into libra pilot some day, but I got to get this thing flying. You are totally right. Lets get me flying before worrying about anything else.

With that said, I am happy to report that you are still the coolest!

I got through the wizard and did a test hover in my basement. IT appears I'm now rocking with Mode 2!!! It's dark out right now, but tomorrow if its nice (even if it's not) I will be able to do my first test flight in mode 2 thanks to you!

Thanks Jackson. I have two extra arms and like 50 pairs of props coming. Some regular and some bull nose. Problem is all of them are coming in march or april. I might try to find a hobby shop to get more. Just so I can fly. I only have 4 props right now. Thanks for the links and thanks again for all your help.

Batteries seem to be tough to come buy. I orderd two from bangood and got a message they are out of stock. Looked on hobby king and they were out. Ordered two off amazon for too much and found out today with an shipping update that they are a month away. I had already asked for a refund from bangood and got it, but now i will probably re order and just wait for them.
