Cheap 5g DIY FPV Set

The 'sleeve' as you call it is an integral part of of this dipole antenna, with one half of the dipole being the metal casing, and the other half the whip extending from the top of the casing. Best to keep it on.

Thanks for your reply and many thanks for the nice words!

The part was only glued (!) to the shielded outside of the antenna, it was not connected to the antenna itself. So I'm not too sure how it helps the antenna recieving signals. But I might of course be wrong. Anyhow, I could not detect any reduction in range without that part, so it does not seem to be *that* necessary ... *hmmm*.

Do you know more about which purpose this part serves?

It's not supposed to be connected to the active element. You didn't look hard enough, it makes contact with the metallic braid/shield.

so it does not seem to be *that* necessary ... *hmmm*.

They don't bother put on stuff that's not necessary ... period. You've taken a dipole (as in 2) antenna and removed one of the poles.

Not worth arguing about. Here's someone making an antenna who understands how they work.
