$400 to spend, any ideals

Welcome to the club! We are all a little deranged or we wouldn't do this. Why not change the setting on the Aerosky gimbal to manual. Then you saved even more money. Gotta go. Grandkids stuff today. I'll check in later.

HaHa! They seem to be ok. I have only bought a couple parts from them and they were actually thru ebay. A lot of guys on the forum use them so they can't be too bad. Shipping seems to be the main complaint but that's true for all the China shops. Takes a lonnnng time to get here. Here is another option. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...ter_Set_w_DJI_FatShark_Afro_Parts_PNF_.html-- Great copter and if (when?) you crash it you can easily repair it or use the parts on another one. Plus it looks cool. For the radio. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...Digital_Telemetry_Radio_System_Mode_2_.html-- Another choice. http://www.amazon.com/Futaba-10JA-R3008SB-Radio-System/dp/B00JEGUKQU-- . A lot of the guys here like the FrSky. Not to expensive and seems to work well. I use and really like the Futaba. Remember, the radio can go from model to model. You can buy additional receivers and go fly on a moments notice. The Futaba will store settings for 10 different models and has sbus Rx (one cable hook up).

You can't use the Aerosky radio on another model. At least not easily
You are just full of good info and im using every bit of it. Some where on the forum I read ther is one store you do

You are just full of great info and Im reading every word of it. Thanks for putting up with me. Some where on here I read there is one store you do not want to buy from, do you happen to know it? Im kind of looking to buy something to build on, maybe 2 or 3 lbs of pay load. That x350 has a load of 12 oz. Not much to work with.

Thanks for the compliment. Us old guys gotta stick together and I'm glad to help. There was one company I heard people talking about but I don't remember the name. Try starting a thread about where not to buy quad parts. That should get you some responses. Back to your project. Check out Spektrum, JR, Graupner, Hi Tec and Taranis for radio packages as well. A radio will be the piece you hang onto the longest. Buy a good one. Also. I think the Venture Deluxe FPV Quad is just cool as hell! Not cookie cutter white plastic. If I didn't have so many unfinished projects right now I'd get one. Oh yeah. I don't have any money left either..........( see "Unfinished Projects")

Well, Im not going to buy a rtf but instead do a project. No better way to learn than hands on or to know your copter inside out. But what, quad or hexaquad ? Would like to have some pay load. Besides, I can buy a little at a time. In the long run end up with bigger and better ! Mad scientist disease kicking In. How about this, copter lifts a rc boat to the lake, launches it , hit rth button then play with boat. double your fun ! Think I will name the boat the SS BEER GUT. Going to need something big I think, maybe 14" blades; or bigger . Got any Ideals on a large frame ?

The boat idea is a scream! Not sure how you could control 2 things at once..... I guess land the quad and play with the boat or put the quad in GPS hold and let it hover, then play with the boat. Pretty cool.:D

Here are some things to point you in the direction I think you want to go. One of my ongoing, never ending, projects is a roughly 700mm quad. I have most everything I need but I keep changing the frame design. Here is the "theory"about how this quad will (eventually) fly using these parts; T-Motor MN3508 380kv w/ matched S25A T-Motor esc's, RC Timer 15x5.5 CF props, X Aircraft MINIx controller ( GPS,OSD etc.), retractable landing gear, 4s 10c 80000mah Multistar battery, Aimdroix arms and Fat Shark FPV. My "theory" is that I will have a AUW of about 1750g. The motor and prop combo should give me about 4800g total lift. The powertrain is very efficient and I am expecting right around 30 minute flight times. " In theory". If I had not invested so much already in frame materials I would go with----- http://www.goodluckbuy.com/h4-680mm...uadcopter-frame-kit-aircraft-multicopter.html---- . It sure would have been simpler and I might have completed it by now. That's ok. I'm a gear head anyway so this is kinda fun. This is just one way to do it. There are a ton of possibilities. Pick one that suits your style. Read through some more of the posts. These guys have great ideas.

sounds like a great build. You will have to put up a vid when you git it done. I do understand about being a gear head. I may have found my build. Have been look at a tarot t960. Know anything about tarot products ?

Wow! When you blow a budget you don't mess around! Tarot has a fine reputation out there. For something that large don't go cheap quality on ANYTHING. You don't want that falling out of the sky. That Hexa would crush a Smart car if it landed on it! LOL---- http://www.kdedirect.com/collections/xf-multi-rotor-power-system-kits/products/kdepsk-4215-6dp----- Here is the the best in the business power train components. --- http://www.kdedirect.com/collections/xf-multi-rotor-electronics/products/kdexf-uas55---- And esc's---- http://www.kdedirect.com/collections/xf-multi-rotor-electronics/products/kdexf-ubec22---- And ubec. There is nothing out there that is even close. I have the 2306 motors and they are like little jewels. If I could afford it I'd get rid of all my other stuff and replace it with 100% KDE. T-Motor is be my 2nd choice. Whew! You're playin' in the big boys sandbox....

Ill just have to buy so much a month. End of this month, the frame. And your right about buying the good stuff . Don't want to drop my yacht in the parking lot.

That's the spirit! HaHa!! One big plus about buying in chunks is you can take your time reasearching and deciding on exactly what will work best for you. You should get another small one to stay in practice.

Yea, I was thinking about that. Will see what the budget will stand. Took a look at KDE, WOW first class does not come cheap but I am committed to building a first rate copter. Wonder how big a payload (yacht) KDE motors will give me. Got to be better than stock. Going to burn a lot of midnight oil on researching. Your going to git tired of me asking questions .

Nah. Ask away. I'm pretty new myself compared to some of these other guys. I learned my lesson early on about the cheap parts from China. Not all are that way, but enough are that I'm very picky now. I have the time to do the research so why not? Here is the performance data on the kde 4215's. You could lift many, many lbs with these!----- https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0...g_-_KDE4215XF-465.pdf?9121605231106288136---- In order to beat the Kde lifting ability with a T Motor you need to go larger and 24v.----- http://www.rctigermotor.com/html/2015/Navigator_0206/286.html---- Also greatly reduced efficiency. KDE is da bomb. Just sayin'......
