Syma x5c-1 Motors

Can anyone tell me why i'm going through so many motors on this thing. I understand that it is a cheap quad copter but I have replaced 3 motors so far. One motor i have replaced twice plus the motor mounts. These motors get so hot that it distorts the motor mount. It came with 3 batteries and I do give it a rest between flights. Is there a motor made that is better than these pieces of crap from Syma? I love the hobby but i'm tried of buying motors and working on this thing. Or do I just need to move on to something better. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I fly my X5C-1 a lot (just about every day) and haven't had that problem (yet).

Something to do with your flying habits or battery charging habits may be affecting motor life.
More information needed.

1). How old is the quad and approximately how much flying time is on it?
2). Describe your normal flying style...(acrobat, slow & steady etc)
3). How old are your batteries?
4). Do you usually run in HIGH mode all the time?
5). Do you like to do "flips"?
6). Are you using a fast charger?

You can check the resistance across the motors to tell if they are bad or going bad. As they go bad, resistance goes up. Check the resistance on NEW motors BEFORE you use them as a reference point.

Also, if your charger is not fully charging the batteries, the lower voltage will put more strain on the motors. Are you using a fast charger? (Not good)

I have a feeling it's time to get new batteries also for you.
Heat kills them. If they are not flat but are "puffy" at ALL...get new ones.

Try this (assuming you have a VOM)

Charge the batteries fully.
Immediately after they reach full charge feel them. They should not be hot at all.
Barely warm. If they are warm or hot, you are charging them too fast which shortens their life. My chargers take 90 minutes and the temperature never changes. They stay cool.

On the batteries (on the white connector) there are two slots on one site where you can see silver. You can touch the VOM probes there to check their voltage. After they have sat (after charging) overnight, check the voltage the next day. They should be over 4 volts even after sitting for a day or two. Mine are like 4.18, 4.14 after 24 hours.

My X5C-1 is about a month old. I had flown it about 6 times when the first motor went out. After that it wasn't long that the rest started having problems. I'm buying syma motors and motor mounts to replace each time this happens. I just fly slow and steady in low mode. I bought extra batteries while I was waiting on the motors to arrive. I just bought original batteries just like it came with. Yes I do flips every once in a while but not constantly. I also bought 2 of the multi- chargers when I bought the new batteries. I can tell when the motor is getting ready to go out because it will get stiff and hard to turn. I even let it cool down before I install another battery in it when i'm flying. I now have 9 batteries that I can use. I thought the motors might be getting hot being so small. I will usually use about three batteries in the evening when i'm out flying. I have a friend that has one and he has never had a problem with his. Maybe I just got a lemon. How long should I wait for the motors to cool before I insert another battery in it? Could this be a problem?

At that point in time check the gears/pinion and make sure they are not binding (no gunk) and the shaft isn't bent.

Ever replaced these?

That said something doesn't make sense as you said it happens to all motors.

Maybe I just got a lemon
Maybe. Been awhile since my X5 days but I never coddled them in a anyway and motor failure was rare as it is with most quads that use these 7x20mm motors.

Yeah, something up with yours. I take mine out every day practically. Sometimes go through 5 batteries and I usually just go from battery to battery with no problem.
Can't say it ever gets hot. I even keep the prop guards on it.
Do you have anything attached to the drone that would make it heavier?

Check for dirt / debris / binding. The props should spin mostly freely.

By any chance, you didn't put tape over the vents or cover the vents in any way did you?
It has to get airflow. A picture is worth 1000 words. Post up a few good pics of it top and bottom. Let's see it.

I'm using 650mAh batteries and getting about 10 minutes per charge. What kind of flight times are you getting?

If you still come up with nothing I would say order a new controller board (under $10) and that should solve the issue.
