ESC

Finished my first build with the help of my buddy but I've had some trouble with dialing it in. EMAX Multi-copter MT2213-935KV CW Brushless Motors are what I'm using and they recommend 18 amp ESC. I've found some online info that recommends multiplying the motor amps by 1.2 to 1.5 to get the correct ESC. I'm thinking about moving from Turnigy 20 amp multistar to 30 amp ESC. Anybody have any experience with the Afro ESC's?

Hi mate I use these 30 amp ESC and have been floor less for 3 years, the ones your looking at the BEC is small and is linear so can get warm a SBEC is the best to get ( switching BEC)

Well in your case 'the dialing it in' problem is not so much about amp limits (you are after all about 11% over the manufacturer's recommendation, no engineer would fault you for that), it's about the firmware. Your Multi's (which is so named to sound appropriate) are just running some generic FW. Going to Simon K's is going to make the biggest difference. This has been honed and updated to work best with Quads as we know them.

You may find this interesting, what SimonK FW can do for an ESC.

FWIW there seems to be too many vids about sync issues with the Afro/Simons these days with lotsa discussions about reasons/fixes etc..

OK, forgive me bc I'm a little slow. The Afro ESC's, which run the Simon K FW is what you're recommending? Or can I upgrade my current ESC's to SimonK?
Thanks for replying!!

Hi guys some motors will work better if the ESC is flashed with BLHeli the multistar I know do need BLHeli
